The Tobacco Free Europe Pledge• Key element of the Tobacco Free Europe campaign, launched May 2009• Based on WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC)

The Pledge calls for-

Measures to counter tobacco marketing, promotion and imagery Measures to control tobacco smuggling Commitment to taxation to reduce smoking prevalence Comprehensive protection from tobacco smoke Helping people to stop smoking Stopping tobacco industry influence on government policy Making industry liable for its actions

By signing the pledge, MEPs:• Show their support for tobacco control and

the effective implementation of the FCTC• Make it possible for the tobacco control

community to hold the successfully elected MEPs accountable for their commitments beyond their election

To date, 35 MEPs from 15 countries have signed the Pledge
