Itcan truthfully bo said of Mr. F. that ho hasbeen a true and faithtul servant.

Tho new dwelling house of F. G. Parker,on the corner of Beach and Summit Ave-

THE ritEHISTOKIC HACKS.

Hubert Bancroft, in his great work, "TheNative Races" devotes a chapter to the ruinsof Arizona and New Mexico, from which thefollowing scraps history, and tho Author's ikescott, Arizona.theories regard the racesthat once luhabited this country arecleaned:

'ihese remains were iirst discovered by thoSpaniards in the middle of tlie 16th century.Cabcza do Vnca wandered to New Mexicoin 1535. P. Jlanode Niza penetrated intoArizona from Sinaloa in 1539. Vsisvue deCorondo reached tho Pueblo towns on tlieRio Grande in 1540. Antonio do Esnciofollowed tho valley thereof to tho same pointsin 1583, and in 1505 Juan dc Onatc conquer-ed New Mexico. All these explorers visitedthe great ruins, and found some the townsstill inhabited. But tho most complete in-

vestigations have been incidental to expedi-tions made under the authority of the UnitedStates, in surveying boundary lines, and inother topographical explorations. The ex-tensions of the Ogdeu and Southern Cali--lorma ltailroad and its groat conncctmcline, the Southern Pacific Railroad, throughArizona will begin at once to arouse tho at.tcntion of scholars and archcoiogists, andthose ruias will become an object of piL--gnmRgc. Mr. Uancrott groups these arch-cologic- al

curiosities as follows:1st. Tho remains of ancient stone and
