THE WOODLANDS HIGH SCHOOL FINAL EXAM EXEMPTION POLICY: Students
are only eligible for exemption from final exams, not midterm exams. Seniors are the only
students in the Fall semester that may be exempt from final exams for half-credit courses which
have a final exam, not a midterm, in the Fall semester. Students must maintain a 90-100 class
average for the semester (18-weeks) and have no more than 3 absences for the semester or have
an 85-89 class average for the semester (18- weeks) with no more than 2 absences for the
semester. In addition, the following criteria apply as well: 1. Seniors must meet the criteria listed
above and the discipline requirement listed below. Seniors may be exempt from all their final
exams both in the Fall and Spring semesters. Seniors may not be exempt from midterm exams in
the Fall semester. 2. Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors may be exempt from all their spring
final exams. Students must meet the criteria listed above and the discipline requirement listed
below. Underclassmen are not eligible for exemptions from final exams or midterms in the Fall
semester. 3. Absences include all days missed: Excused and Unexcused. Pre-approved absences,
funerals, DOC’s, and hospital stays count against exemptions. 4. School field trips, athletic
events, UIL events, HCPs (health care provider - student attended school part of the day), PREs
(present), GLOs (grade level office), ECLs (election clerk), CTZs (citizenship), NATs
(naturalization), CVs (up to two College Visits) and religious holidays are not considered
absences. 5. A student granted a final exam exemption must still attend that class during the final
exam period. Failure to attend will result in a zero or an incomplete for that course. 6. Any
student that has served SAC, DAEP, or OSS while enrolled in a course during the semester of the
final exam is not eligible for a final exam exemption for that particular course.
ADVANCED PLACEMENT EXAMS: The final deadline to register and purchase AP exams
is Feb 22, 2019. These exams are not for students in PreAP classes.

2019. The cost of these exams is $96 each. The free and reduced price is $55 per exam

ATHLETICS:
BOYS BASKETBALL: Boys Basketball has started district and are currently 2-0. We have a
huge game at Klein on Friday night at 7:00 pm. We then have our last game before break when
Conroe comes to our place Monday Dec 17 at 7:00 pm. Please come out and support these great
young men. For more information about our Highlander Basketball program go to our website at
www.highlanderbasketball.org
The Woodlands Sophomore basketball team took on the Klein Oak Panthers on Saturday,
Dec 8, and won a tight contest with a score of 46-42. On Tuesday, Dec 11, they took on the
Klein Cain Hurricanes and won soundly with a score of 45-27. On Friday, Dec 14 they traveled
to Klein to take on the Bearkats in 15-6A action and will follow up with a game on Monday, Dec
17 at TWHS against the Conroe Tigers. They are currently 5-5 and 2-0 in district play. Come
out and support your Highlanders.
The Freshman Green team is 8-4 for the season. They are working hard and showing
improvement each week. They play Klein and Conroe before the Christmas break and will
participate in the College Park Tournament at the end of this month.
The Freshmen Red boys basketball has an overall record of 4-6 with a district record of 2-
0. The Red team played Seven Lakes on December 4 and lost 21 - 59. Seven Lakes was a really
good team and the red team competed against them. They then started district play against Klein
Oak. They defeated the panthers 50 - 45. This week the highlanders played Klein Cain. It was a
great game and with the closing seconds, the red team stole the ball and made a lay up to win the
game. The Highlanders won 50 - 49. This Friday come out and support the Highlanders as
they travel to Klein. HIGHLANDER SOFTBALL: Highlander Softball - Tryouts for the 2019 Lady Highlander
Fastpitch Softball Team will be Friday, Jan 18 after school and Saturday, Jan 19 at 10:00 am at
Highlander Field on the Sr. Campus. To try out, each girl must have an athletic physical
completed on the district's form and sign-up with Coach Borths. Additional information and a
physical form can be found on our website: www.twhsoftball.com. If you have any questions
and to sign-up for tryouts, please email Coach Borths at tborths@conroeisd.net.
Five seniors from the Highlander Softball Team signed their National Letters of Intent in
November to continue their softball careers in college. They have put in a lot of hard work and
dedication to achieve this honor as has their entire family. Congratulations to everyone! There is
still some unfinished business for them to take care of this year as Highlanders before they
embark on their next journey. Whatever It Takes! Amanda Curran – University of Tennessee,
Abby Jones – University of Tulsa, Jordan Neely – St. Edward’s University, Skylar Stockton –
University of North Carolina at Wilmington, and Angela Wang – University of Dallas,
LADY HIGHLANDER BASKETBALL: The Lady Highlander Green team started district
play last week with a win against College Park. The girls jumped off to a great start, finishing the
first quarter with a 5 point lead. The Lady Cavaliers were unable to answer Melina Hursong’s
two three pointers and struggled offensively with multiple blocks from Talora Scott-Nnaji and
Kate Mensinger. The Lady Highlander Green Team’s next district game is Monday, Dec 17 vs
Conroe High.
The Lady Highlander Freshman Red Team is off to a great start in district play. We are
currently 3-0 in district and have an overall record of 11-2. Embracing every opportunity to
improve and adding consistence to our play, we are striving to continue our success this season
one game at a time.
The Lady Highlander JV Girls Basketball team continues to see the benefits of their hard
work through their success to start this season. The team went into Thanksgiving break with a
big win against Memorial, 51-34. District play started after the holiday. The girls dropped a close
game to Oak Ridge in the home opener, 36-40, but fought hard until the end. The Magnolia
tournament that weekend saw Magnolia West win the first game, 42-47. However, the girls came
back to win the next two games (58-31 against Davis, and 58-35 against Magnolia) to set up a
rematch against Magnolia West for third place in the tournament. This time, the team was
triumphant, winning the game 37-24 and earning a top 3 finish in both tournaments they played
this year. The girls picked up their first district win of the season as they battled College Park
and beat them for the second time at their place this year, 36-29. The girls had a battle against
Klein Cain. An early hole due to some great shooting by Klein Cain saw the Lady Highlanders
unable to get close until the fourth quarter. The fourth went back and forth until Klein Cain hit a
game-winning shot with 8 seconds left. A good luck at a winning shot bounced off the rim, but
the girls earned a moral victory despite the loss on the scoreboard. At this point in the season, the
JV team is 12-3 overall, with the 3 losses coming by a total of 10 points.
Lady Highlander Varsity Basketball picked up a district win this past Tuesday at Klein
Cain winning 53-43. Leading the way for the Lady Highlanders was Miima Mpagi with 19pts, 6
rebounds, and 6 steals. Also having a great night was Amelia Thedinger with 12 pts and Kate
Frank with 11pts. Leading the way in rebounding was Mary Frederick with 8 and Anna Luman
with 7. The Lady Highlanders are home against Klein this Friday. Game time is 7:00 pm. And
then the Lady Highlanders will finish play before the Holidays at Conroe on Monday
Dec17. Game time will be 6:00 pm.
