Then Sunday Came…

“Besides all this, this is the third day since these things happened.”

Luke 24:21

Jesus Lay Dead

• His enemies celebrated their victory.

• His devoted followers mourned and wept.

• They met to embalm His body.

Unfulfilled Prophecies

• Jesus Himself prophesied His resurrection

Jesus Spoke Openly

• He had angered the Jews with His prophecy. They said,

• “Sir, we remember …” – Matthew 27: 63• He had boldly spoken of His resurrection• John 10:17, 18• He had told his 12 Disciples of His coming death and

resurrection• Matthew and Mark

Three Days of Waiting

• The Jews were very nervous.

• They requested security.

• The seal of the Roman empire was affixed to the stone of His tomb.

• Roman guards stood watch.

The Great King

• Every orthodox Israelite believed in a coming kingdom ruled by a descendant of David.

• They were convinced Jesus was the long promised king. (John 6:15)

• His disciples did not “listen” to his statements about His coming death, and resurrection.

Disheartened Followers

• There had been such great expectations

• “But we were hoping that it was He who was going to redeem Israel… Luke 24:21

• Paul wrote: “And if Christ is not risen, your faith is futile…” 1st Corinthians 14:14

Death Was Not Enough

• Apostle Paul stated the three elements of the saving gospel:

• “…that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, And that He was buried,

• And that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures.”

• 1st Corinthians 15:4

Then Sunday Came…

• The earth shook

• The stone covering the door was flung away

• The tomb was empty!

• The Angel said: “Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but is risen.”

The Third Day

• Jesus was alive!

• The claims of Jesus were substantiated.

• The prophecies were fulfilled

• The enemies were defeated

• The followers were filled with joy.

• Salvation was complete and available.

What Will You Do With Jesus?

• Reject Him as most of Israel?

• Or

• Receive Him by faith as millions have done?

• “You ask me how I know He lives

• He lives within my heart.”
