Then Sunday Came…
“Besides all this, this is the third day since these things happened.”
Luke 24:21
Jesus Lay Dead
• His enemies celebrated their victory.
• His devoted followers mourned and wept.
• They met to embalm His body.
Unfulfilled Prophecies
• Job said, “For I know that my Redeemer lives.” Job 14:14.
• King David prophesied His resurrection
• Jesus Himself prophesied His resurrection
Jesus Spoke Openly
• He had angered the Jews with His prophecy. They said,
• “Sir, we remember …” – Matthew 27: 63• He had boldly spoken of His resurrection• John 10:17, 18• He had told his 12 Disciples of His coming death and
resurrection• Matthew and Mark
Three Days of Waiting
• The Jews were very nervous.
• They requested security.
• The seal of the Roman empire was affixed to the stone of His tomb.
• Roman guards stood watch.
The Great King
• Every orthodox Israelite believed in a coming kingdom ruled by a descendant of David.
• They were convinced Jesus was the long promised king. (John 6:15)
• His disciples did not “listen” to his statements about His coming death, and resurrection.
Disheartened Followers
• There had been such great expectations
• “But we were hoping that it was He who was going to redeem Israel… Luke 24:21
• Paul wrote: “And if Christ is not risen, your faith is futile…” 1st Corinthians 14:14
Death Was Not Enough
• Apostle Paul stated the three elements of the saving gospel:
• “…that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, And that He was buried,
• And that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures.”
• 1st Corinthians 15:4
Then Sunday Came…
• The earth shook
• The stone covering the door was flung away
• The tomb was empty!
• The Angel said: “Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but is risen.”
The Third Day
• Jesus was alive!
• The claims of Jesus were substantiated.
• The prophecies were fulfilled
• The enemies were defeated
• The followers were filled with joy.
• Salvation was complete and available.
What Will You Do With Jesus?
• Reject Him as most of Israel?
• Or
• Receive Him by faith as millions have done?
• “You ask me how I know He lives
• He lives within my heart.”
