(a)DifferencesareobservedwhencomparingresultsfortheCGWtothosefortheMWsamples.ThereasonisthatthesimulaEons(MW)donotconsiderGBsatall,whereassomeGBsexistintheCGWsample.

(b)ForNW-H,resultsclearlyindicatesHdiffusionalongthedepthdirecEon.

(c)FortheMW-Co-CH,themainHretenEonpeaklocatesat~400nm.ThisresultindicatesthatintheabsenceofGBs,HatomsdiffusealongtheirradiaEondirecEon,andintheirmigraEontothesurface,Hatomsreacharegionhighlypopulatedbyvacanciesat~400nm,wheretheygettrapped,explainingthedifferencesintheHprofilebetween150and540nm.

(d)ForNW-Co-CH,thereisgoodagreementbetweenmeasuredandsimulatedHprofile.InaddiEon,thetotalHretenEonisalmostthesameinthesimulaEonsasintheexperimentsanddiffusionisobserved.

(f)ThemeasuredandsimulatedHprofilesagreequitewellfortheNW-Seq-CH.BothprofilesshowHretenEonpeakat~650nm.Moreover,thetotalmeasuredandsimulatedretainedfracEonsarequitesimilar.

WhenSequenEalC-H,weobservethattheenhancementfortheNWislowerthanthatfortheMWsamples.ThissupportstheideaoftheGBsacEngasdiffusionpathsforH.ThepresenceofahigherGBdensityinNWleadstoahigherprobabilityofHreleasealongGBs,beinglessaffectedbythepresenceofthehighervacancyconcentraEonsinducedbyCirradiaEon.

WhencomparingthedatafortheMW-Co-CHandfortheMW-Seq-CH,weobserveaclearinfluenceoftheirradiaEonprocedureitselfontheHretenEon,eventhoughtheconcentraEonofvacanciesissimilarinbothcases.

Hatomsaremainlytrappedinvacancieslocatedintheinteriorofthegrains.ThenextquesEonistoesEmatethetypeandsizeofclusterswhereHatomsaretrapped.Studyisongoingexperimentally(M.Panizoetal.,tobepublished)

AccordingtooursimulaEons,sincevacanciesareimmobileatRT,morethan90%ofHatomsareretainedinmonovacancieswithdifferentHcontent.Moreover,DFTdatashowthatthatthemaximumnumberofHatomsthatcanbeaccommodatedinsidethemonovacancyis10.Fromthesedatawecanconcludethatself-healinginWwouldhappenattemperaturesinwhichthemobilityofvacanciesisacEvated.

Thisremark,togetherwiththefactthatGBsfavorsHrelease,indicatethatnanostructuredWmaybeacandidateforPFMapplicaEons,asithasahigherradiaEonresistancethanthetradiEonallyCGW

TheirradiaEonofgoldnanorodcolloidswithafemtosecondlasercanbetunedtoinducecontrollednanorodreshaping,yieldingcolloidswithexcepEonallynarrowlocalizedsurfaceplasmonresonancebands.HighlyconcentratedsilvercolloidalnanoparEclesoluEonswereproducedthankstofslaserablaEonanditwasdemonstratedthatsuchembeddedplasmonicnanoparEclesmaybeviablecandidatestoreducedamagesproducedonopEcsbyswijheavyionsduetothechangeoftheirshapeunderirradiaEon
