Tie Making

The photography in this book was taken at Vanners the silk weavers in

Sudbury, England and Barbara-Ann the tie makers in Basildon, England.

Vanners is one of the oldest companies still designing and weaving silk

fabrics in England, Vanners has a pedigree which stretches back to the

early 1700’s. Vanners moved to Sudbury, Suffolk in the 1860s and has

occupied its large town-centre site since 1900. As well as state-of-the-art

jacquard and dobby weaving, Vanners has its own yarn dyeing and fabric

finishing facilities under one roof.

Barbara Anne Ties is a British company with a long history of making

beautiful silk ties, bow ties and cravats for some of the worlds leading

fashion designers.
