Last semester was the beginning of the Reten-tion Advisory Council. Even though both the coun-cil and my Panhellenic position were new, a lot transpired! The council was formed, chapters were contacted, and even some were interviewed.
With a new se-mester starting, now is the time to plan ahead and accomplish all of the tasks created for the retention Advisory Council. There will be a few changes since this program is so new, but also a lot of opportunities to be creative.
First, I would like to establish bi-weekly meetings. I hope that in during this there will be more of a schedule in place and allow for better com-
munication between the Council and myself.
With sororities just completing and the fraternities still continually recruiting, now is the per-fect time to interview or re-interview the chapters to see where numbers are at. Also, it’s the perfect time to implement retention techniques to keep new members involved and old members active. Don’t forget to document every-thing that you do!
Also, with the semester just starting, I am hoping to be able to avoid the end of the year procras-tination of chapters and get them involved in this proc-ess. I know there were contact issues last semes-ter, but I am hop-ing that with help
of Greek Affairs we will be able to get each and every chapter involved.
With all of this in mind, let’s make this a great semester and set the bar high for the next Direc-tor of COB and Retention and Retention Advisory Council. Let’s make our Greek Community even better!
Time To Buckle Down!
Junior Week Recap! In case you do not remember, Junior Week was held towards the end of the spring semester last school year. Greek Affairs partnered with the Career Employment Services, the Union Program Council, and the Kansas State
Alumni Association to put on a week of events for juniors.
Despite a lower turnout than expected, the week went well. We raf-fled off a K-State watch and had lots of feedback.
Changes will be made, such as better pub-licity, a change in the dates, and more activities.
For a first time program, Junior Week was a great success!
I know it seems like a lot of work, but it will be re-warding and worthwhile!

but like Junior Week, it will be a week of events and special offers that Seniors can choose to participate.
The Alumni As-sociation is extremely ex-cited to be involved in this week and have a lot of great ideas. I will be meet-ing with the Alumni Asso-ciation soon to discuss
details! Like the Sophomore Retreat, we want this program to be easy and not one bit time consuming. Again, if you have
any ideas or suggestions, please let me know!
Just like Junior Week, we will be sponsoring a Senior Week this fall. Senior Week will take place November 17 to the 21, the week right before Thanksgiving break.
Like Junior Week, I want this week to reward the Seniors who have been a part of the Greek community and are getting ready to go into the “real world”. I’m still working out the details,
At the roundtable held last spring, I received a lot of request for a program that focuses on the Greek sophomores. Since this group is just coming off the high of pledging and initiation, they tend to feel overlooked and left out as a new group gains the chapter’s attention. Not to mention that classes get harder and sophomores try to be involved in everything possible.
So how do we help this group? How about a one day retreat all about stress management and relaxa-tion! Sunday, October 12th will be the first ever Sophomore Retreat. This program is still being developed, but I have a lot of good ideas so far.
This year for recruitment guide training we had Counseling Services
come and talk about stress management techniques, ways to relax, and how to
limit worries. It was a great workshop and I think it would be highly utilized by these overworked sophomores.
After learning how to relax, it’s time to relax. I am hoping to have snack and beverage donations from the K-State Alumni Association (still in the process of talking).
As it looks right now, we will be showing a movie, starting at 1 pm with snacks and then have the counseling ser-vices presentation at 3 pm.
If you have any other ideas or suggestions, please let me know! I’m always open to knew ideas!

Once all background information has been col-lected, contact the chapter officers and set up a meeting. At this
Each member of the RAC is responsible for the chapters that they are assigned to.
Each chapter will have a file that will be kept in the Greek Affairs office and will consist of all research, notes, plans, and data.
For each chapter, obtain the number of members in each grade, along with a list of contact information for the
meeting, ask the required questions and talk in depth with the officers about retention in that specific chapter.
After meeting, the create a plan for that chapter and meet with Kim to discuss that chapter.
Keep in touch with the chapter and make sure that changes are being made.

Because RAC members are asso-ciated with eh Panhellenic and Interfrater-nal Council, they will be held to higher standards. Please unaffiliated yourself whenever acting as a RAC representative.
Also, maintain a clean appearance, including Facebook, academics, and on campus. With this said, please behave appropriately and professionally. Communication is
key, so always keep Kim posted and up-to-date. We have already agreed on appropri-ate behaviors, and you will be held ac-countable.

These are basic questions, so feel free to ask any other question that you feel is necessary.
Make use of the Greek Affairs resources!
The Retention Advisory Council was created to help the Panhellenic Direc-
tor of Continuous Open Bidding and Retention research retention rates
among all chapter in the Kansas State University Greek community. Even
though this is a difficult and sensitive topic, I believe that changes will not
occur unless we approach retention with a positive attitude and a breath of
fresh air. Creativity and “outside of the box” thinking will keep chapters
energized and motivated. My personal goal is to make a positive impact in
each chapter, creating a large difference in the community as a whole.
So, do not look at this as a job, but as an opportunity to be creative
and imaginative. This is the perfect chance to make a difference for your-
self, your chapter, the community, and the future. Take advantage of what
lays before you and enjoy it! I look forward to everyone’s ideas and seeing
what we can create and the impact we can make.
Best wishes!
