TIPS FOR WORKING WITH PUPILS WHO HAVE SPECIAL

EDUCATIONAL NEEDS

There are three main points to remember when working with pupils in sets 5 and 6

Know where the starting point is for these girls and set appropriate work.

Build a relationship

Be firm and fair but most of all be CONSISTENT

KNOW WHERE THE STARTING POINT IS AND WORK FROM THERE.

Gidiyoruz futbol Pazarda yirmi bir Haziran, saat birde.

Yirmi bir Haziranda, saat birde Pazar gunu fotbola gidiyoruz.

Look at database and IEPs

Look at reading ages

Use writing frames/word banks

Record in different ways

Use ‘show me’ boards

Set short tasks using multi sensory approach.

BUILD A RELATIONSHIP

Speak to each girl by name in the lesson.

Know something special about them.

Be interested in them – talk/laugh/joke with them.

Be positive

Ask the Teaching Assistants

BE FIRM, FAIR AND CONSISTENT

Use a seating plan

Have a task on the desk/smart board for them to do when they come in

Set out exactly what you want them to do and when you want it completed (timed tasks)

Be active

Don’t enter into arguments or banter

Give a choice

Avoid detentions where possible use merits and minutes

Reports – be honest. Complete this with them

Reward

Girls who need learning support have a lot of problems that they come to school with every day. Please remember
