When this joint is stressed

Problems occur.

What are the symptoms?

TMJ Disorder symptoms expand beyond the jaw……

Your jaw may sound like your brekky when

you chew.

Stiffness in your shoulders and back

occur frequently.

What causes TMJ Disorders?

Who gets it?

* The primary problem can be in the joints themselves, the muscles of the face and jaw, or a combination of these.

* There are various ways that the temporomandibular joint and muscles can be disrupted; trauma from accidents involving a blow to the face or whiplash. B r u x i s m -which is clenching / grinding of the teeth can cause muscular pain.

* Hence, we can all be sufferers of TMJ Disorder. Millions of people around the world suffer from TMJ Disorder.

Can TMJ be treated?

YES!

Pain doesn’t have to be your way of life.

It starts with a consultation by: Dr Charlotte de Courcey-Bayley St Leonards Holistic Dental Care

Your medical history is reviewed and a Physical Examination is carried out. This includes:

1. Posture examination to find out if any muscular or skeletal problems are contributing or causing your TMJ problems.

2. A cranial examination to determine the structural make-up of your skull. This includes evaluating your jaw alignment.

3. A full oral examination of your teeth, gums, tooth alignment fractures and wear marks in the teeth (that show us you’re grinding patterns), swallow patterns and tongue function.

4. Neurological examination to evaluate if there is a nervous system disorder which may be causing you TMJ systems.

5. A TMJ examination to observe the range of motion presence of clicking or pain, smoothness of movement, locking or deviation of the jaw during movement.

6. JVA (Joint vibration analysis) a computer assisted assessment of the noises made of the joint during movement.

We then refer you to have a 3D image jaw

scan.

This Reduces: *Muscular pain *Inflammation

This Promotes: *Healthy joints *Better sleep & breathing
