School Mascot
This is our last newsletter this term. I hope
that you all have an enjoyable break and that
the weather remains as good as it is now. We
all wish our year 6 children and those in other
year groups who are leaving us well in their
new schools.
Sadly we say goodbye to Mrs Wright, Mrs Darker,
Miss Clarke, Mrs Daffeh, Mrs Greenhalgh.
Foodbank Donations
A huge thank you for your kind
donations to the Agape Foodbank
on Friday. As you can see, you were
hugely generous and the volunteers
at Spalding Foodbank were very
grateful for our donations. We look
forward to supporting this amazing
charity again next year.
Thank you to those who participated and
donated to the NSPCC non-uniform day. We
managed to raise £280 for the charity.
Green Flag Award
A BIG well done to Mrs Baker and
her ECO Warriors for retaining
the Green Flag status. Both Mrs
Baker and the warriors have
worked extremely hard to retain this.
The year 6 children challenged the staff on
Tuesday to the annual rounders match. This
year, the staff were victors by winning 8-7.5 !
We are aware that as we are so close to the
end of term, some children have been wearing
trainers as they have grown out of their school
shoes. However, please be reminded, children
are to wear black school shoes and not trainers
when we come back to school in September.
Headlice
Please can you take the summer break as a good
opportunity to check your child’s hair for headlice.
Well done to all the children who en-
tered Monkshouse Has Got Talent. We
had singing, violin and diablo acts all of a
very high standard! The overall winner was Diana Dourado (Y6)
singing Skyfall, second place was Martyna Kuziemkowska (Y1)
playing Twinkle, Twinkle on the violin and third place was Lewis
Burton (Y4) & Brendan Atkin (Y4) on the diablos.
The school council held a competition to
design a suitable mascot for the school.
The winning entry chosen by Mrs Good-
sell was Nina’s ‘Monkshouse Wise Owl’.
Mrs Baker very kindly made the design
up for us and the owl will now be proudly
appearing at all our sporting and other
school events.

Year 1
As part of our Topic Super-
heroes, the year 1 children
were lucky enough to meet
real-life Superheroes at
Spalding Fire Station. The
children were very enthusias-
tic about the fire engine and
its equipment and a highlight for them came when
they were able to take turns using the hose. Thank
you to all the staff who came along and a special
thank you to the fire crew.
Year 2
On Thursday Year 2 were
buzzing with excitement as
they had fun learning all about
bees to conclude their
minibeast topic. The day
started with visit from Mr Dunham (Alfie’s
neighbour) who is a local beekeeper! Mr
Dunham shared
lots of infor-
mation with us
and answered
lots of our amazing questions. Then we
spent the remainder of the morning
completing learning ac-
tivities about bees and
making honey flapjack.
During the afternoon we then enjoyed watching the
Bee movie as our cinema treat.

Martyna Kuziemkowska, Phoebe Hedaux, Maja Szudek,

The children attended the 1st ever Change
4 Life Festival held at Spalding High
School, where they took part in a range of
exciting activities. Our leaders were even
awarded t-shirts for the ‘best game’ of
the day! Very impressed guys! Some fan-
tastic leaders for the future!
Year 5
The year 5 children in Mr Roberts’ class have
designed their own Maths games to play with the
class! Some amazing ideas on display here with a
range of mathematical skills being tested!
Year 6
This year’s leaver’s play was called ‘An Inspector
Calls’ and told the story of the dreaded visit by
the school inspectors to Monkshouse School. The
children worked incredibly hard to put on a fan-
tastic performance – we were amazed at how
quickly everyone learned their lines this year!
The acting and singing was all fantastic and we
were very proud of the year 6 children. By the
end of each performance there was
hardly a dry eye in the house. We would also like to
thank the members of staff who were good sports
about being included in the play.
