APRIL IS AUTISM AWARENESS MONTH PSSA Gift Card Winner
The School Wide Positive Behavior Team’s Silent Reward Auction went off without a hitch!
The April 6th event had students excited about the cool rewards they could win for showing good behavior. Different departments of the school came together, along with some generous donors, to create 21 different baskets that stu-dents could choose from. Some of the baskets included an assortment of snacks, different gift cards, as well as sup-plies that students could use to help them during school. Students saved up their Tornado Tickets and put them into the baskets during each lunch, hoping luck would go their way. Winners ranged from 7th to 12th grade, showing just how involved the student body got. Each de-partment showed their support for the positive behavior their students displayed, not only throughout the school week, but all year. The SWPBT hopes that this fun event will motivate students to keep up the good work every school year. Although not everybody could be a win-ner, the SWPBT hopes to hold more events just like this Silent Auction. Teachers, keep encouraging your students to show their positive behav-ior and students, save up your Tornado Tickets! You never know when
you’ll get rewarded for doing the right thing! - Alexa Collins ‘18

chance to win. PSSA exams were admin-istered April 11-25 throughout public schools in Pennsylvania. Keystone ex-ams for upperclassmen will also have tutoring and the testing window runs
from May 14-25, 2018.
Some MCA Jr./ Sr. High School Staff wore Autism Awareness Shirts to show support. L-R: Superintendent, Bernard Stellar; Ashley Evans; Michele Krah; Melinda Hoopes; Diane Rumbel;
Kalyn Essick; Tori Wariki; Maggie Gola.
Do you ever wonder why MCA Live shows a word of the day? “Word of
the Day” helps students better their vocabulary. Strong vo-cabulary, according to the National Assessment of Educa-tional Progress, can lead to better test scores and overall comprehension of the written language. There is a pattern between above average and advanced scores in standard-ized testing and vocabulary. Students who have a stronger vocabulary have better test scores. So pay attention to the word of the day to learn new vocabulary words and getting
a better score on standardized tests. -Mackenzie Zerbe ‘21

Welcome to MCA
The Mount Carmel Area Music Department performed the Broadway classic “Fiddler on the Roof” and it was a great success! MCA has a reputation of putting on in-credible musicals and “Fiddler on the Roof” was no ex-ception. Seniors Ben McFadden Sarah Cooper played the power couple, Tevye and Golde, with their five daughters played by Alexa Collins, Mackenzie Witt, Miranda Fiamoncini, Katie Flynn, and Cierra Clayton. The eldest daughters’ suitors were Andrew Rooney, Zachary Hunter, and Manus McCracken. Fiddler on the Roof was under the direction of Ms. Melinda Hoopes, with choreography done by Ms. Katrina Calvin, stage construction and detailing by Mr. David McFee, and pit orchestra direction by Mr. Bernard Stellar. Ms. Hoopes is already looking for a new musical to dazzle the stage for next year! –Katie Flynn ‘19
