Traditions in Hukvaldy

Májka

The tree bark and branches decorated with coloured fabric only in the upper part is called Májka. The boys started to build Májka in front of girls houses (symbol of love) long time ago and today people build Májka in significant places and hills. We build Májka 30th April and it is thrown down 31st May.

Krmáš

After the harvest people celebrate completion of summer work in the fields. Krmáš is the name of the Lachian celebration. This event is celebrated in villages and it is also good opportunity to meet families.

Ondřejská Pouť

St. Andrew Fair is dedicated to St. Andrew who is a patron of the chapel in Hukvaldy castle. It takes place on Sundays around the feast of St. Andrew 30th November. People have lunch, cakes, pretzels and Vařonka drink.
