Introduction

Capacity is usually defined as: The maximum hourly rate at which persons or vehicles

can reasonably be expected to traverse a point or uniform section of a lane or roadway during

a given time period under prevailing roadway, traffic and control conditions.

The normal function of traffic lights required more slightly control and coordination

to ensure that traffic moves as smoothly and safely as possible and that pedestrians are

protected when they cross the roads. A variety of different control systems are used to

accomplish this, ranging from simple clockwork mechanisms to sophisticated computerized

control and coordination systems that self-adjust to minimize delay to people using the road.

Objectives

- Get familiar write rate of flow in peak hours.

- Learning the synchronize of traffic lights.

- Employing AutoCAD and other engineering programs in the layout.

Data

Part I

Part II First Traffic Intersection

Timing: 5 to 6 Date: 20/12/2015

Counting the number of cars in each direction NS-EW-RL for each signal where we had four

signals in each intersection.

First Traffic Intersection

Timing: 6 to 7 Date: 20/12/2015

Second Traffic Intersection

Timing: 5 to 6 Date: 20/12/2015

Second Traffic Intersection

Timing: 6 to 7 Date: 20/12/2015

Third Traffic Intersection

Timing: 5 to 6 Date: 20/12/2015

Third Traffic Intersection

Timing: 6 to 7 Date: 20/12/2015

Conclusion

Unfortunately, these main intersections in Rak Al Khaimah are not safe for

pedestrians to cross them because there is no specific crossing for them. While these

intersections in the middle of a big population in the area. We noticed that the signals

synchronized depending on the capacity of the streets not in organized way because the town

needs more facilities.
