I
was
a teenager when I went to India for the
first
time. I spent three weeks there with
my
family
and it was definitely one of the best experiences of my life.
One day while we were
going
to the Taj Mahal, we
decided
to stop at a marketplace. I was
walking through the market, looking around when, suddenly, I saw something amazing. A man
was lying on a
bed
of nails, but he didn 't seem to feel
any pain at
all. I just stood there looking
at him, expecting to see blood. But I didn't see anything. As I continued walking, I saw a man
playing the flute and, to my surprise there was a snake coming out of a basket. The snake was
moving to the music, almost like it was dancing When the music stopped, the snake stopped
too
and
went
back
into
its
basket. 'How
do
they
do
these things?' I thought.
If wasn't until some years later that I got an answer to that question as I was reading an article
about
India. According to the text, anyone can sit on a
bed
of nails and not feel much pain.
However, the nails should be close together. As for the snakes, well they don t hear anything. The
snake charmers
play
music and move from side to side and the snake moves in the same way.
So, that's how they
do
it.
Was I disappointed? Well, a little.
But
I still think India is
an
exciting place
to
go
on
holiday.

Travelling abroad is
not always
easy
to do-tickets
are costly, restaurants expensive,
and cheap hotels are hard
to
find. To save money, one
of the
best options is
to
stay in
a youth hostel. However,
don't
just choose any hostel. Stay in a place
with
style,
or at
least,
with
some extra fun.
Are you a big fan
of
rock music? In Zurich, Switzerland, a great and cheap
place to stay is the ZicZac Rock Hotel This is a fancy hostel and it has
around
50
rooms, and each room is decorated
with
a specific rock band
. . . . . in mind, including Led Zeppelin and the Rolling Stones. Enjoy the stay and
rock

Looking
for
a room in Thailand?
Try out
the
International House of Travelers in the town
of
Phuket. There you can
walk
through the nearby banana
field,
or
take a romantic walk
within the
tropical garden.
The hostel also has a lovely herbal sauna and
offers
traditional Thai massages.
Don't
miss out There is also
a sitting room for everyone
with
a
TV
and library with
books
in
many languages.
Imagine the most
perfect
tropical holiday. Does relaxing
on
the beach watching the sun
set sound good enough?
Add inexpensive hostel prices,
and suddenly you're
at the Seashell Cove
Resort
in Fiji
There
you can relax next
to the water
in any one
of their
traditional
wooden cabins or 'bures'. A holiday simply doesn't
get
any
better than that
Finally, backpacking
through the North
American mountains can be a
fun but
tiring
journey. When you're ready to rest
your
feet,
don't
forget to
stop
at the
Ottawa
ail
Hostel in
Canada. This is
perhaps one
of
the most unusual hostels
in
the
world.

So, when did you
decide
that
you
wanted
to
become
a cameraman?
Well, when I was ten, my father
took
me
to my first football match.
lt wasn't a very exciting match so
I spent most of the time watching
the cameraman at work. I found
his work so fascinating Millions of
people
would watch the match
later
on in
the
evening.
So, how did you get started?
I
wrote
a
letter
to
a TV station
and
took part in a training course. lt was
really interesting
and
they thought
I was quite talented, so after six
weeks, they gave me a job.
What was
your first
job?
lt was a local cricket match, and
to
be honest, I didn t
do
a very
good
job. luckily, I
didn t
get fired, but it
was good for me because I always
learn a lot from my mistakes. My
work improved a lot in the first
year
or
so. But I soon got bored of doing sports.
So,
what
did
you
decide
to
do next?
Well, I
really
wanted
to
travel. I had a friend who travelled a lot with the news. But that can gefvery
dangerous in certain countries. Then I had
an
opportunity
to
make a wildlife documentary in Africa, so I took it.
I had an amazing time
and
the experience changed my life. Fifteen years
have
passed
and
I'm still
working on wildlife documentaries and I love it.
What
s the most exciting
thing
that s ever happened to you?
I was in India once, trying
to
film a
tiger
and I wanted
to
get a good shot. So I
climbed a tree in the jungle because someone said
to
me,
a tiger
won't climb a
tree.' Well,
along
came a tiger,
saw
me and you guessed it, climbed
up
the
tree. I was so scared. luckily, someone in our group fired a gun in the air
and the
tiger
ran away. lt
got
pretty close
to
me, though.

What did
Jeff
do
at
the

he
went
to?
2
Where
did Jeff get his first job?
3 Why
did Jeff almost get fired from his first job?
4
What did Jeff

in

One
of
the most
popular dishes in Mexican
restaurants are enchiladas. Enchiladas are made
with tortillas flat, thin circles
of
bread) and different
ingredients like meat, cheese, sour cream, vegetables and
chilli peppers. The ingredients are wrapped up in tortillas
and sauce is poured on top. Some of the most common
sauces are: salsa ver e a green sauce made with
green chilli peppers), suizas made with milk), and mole
a traditional recipe with dried red peppers, nuts and
chocolate). You can find people selling enchiladas in
many Mexican streets, so you can eat them as you walk.
Dutch Pea Soup
The Netherlands is known for its many kinds of soups, but
one
of the
most well-known is the traditional pea soup snert).
Almost every restaurant and cafe has
its
own special recipe for
this soup. The most common ingredients are peas, herbs, onions,
.. potatoes and sausage. The soup
is
very thick, and one bowl is definitely
enough for a whole meal. The Dutch say that if the soup is good, the
spoon will stand on its own in the middle
of
it. For people who don t have
time
to
go
to
a restaurant,
it
makes an excellent takeaway that you can buy from
small cafes on
the
streets or by the canals.
Miso
iso is a Japanese food made
by
cooking rice, soya beans, and _
salt together for a long time until they are
very
soft. The result is
a thick paste or spread.
Th
is is added as an ingredient
to
many
Japanese dishes,
but most
commonly in miso soups. Apart
from miso, these soups contain other ingredients, such as
fish or mushrooms, depending where they are made in
Japan. Japanese people drink the soup
right from the
bowl and
eat
the other ingredients with chopsticks
wooden sticks used to pick up food, instead
of
a
fork). This kind of soup is very light and full of
vitamins, so it s very good for you.
