it is a great honor to welcome you to the University of Washington, and we thank

our esteemed tribal leaders, elders and guests for joining us. today’s summit will focus

on the recruitment and retention of native american students, faculty and staff; a

longhouse-style facility; activity in response to issues raised at the 2007 summit; and

the formulation of a Memorandum of Understanding. our aim is to have a discussion

where we can listen and learn as you share your ideas, experiences and concerns about

these topics and the priorities important to you and to your tribe and communities.

We sincerely hope that you will find this summit to be an effective means for

strengthening our existing partnerships and for forging new collaborations.

thank you again for joining us at this important gathering.

Welcome to the University of Washington
