TRIDUUM-2020

CHRIST THE KING

CATHOLIC CHURCH

2

Late on the afternoon of Holy Thursday, Lent ends. The

Church enters the Paschal Triduum. During Friday and

Saturday, the Elect and the whole Church are called to fast and

pray. This fasting is not the Lenten fast of discipline. It is the ex-

cited and nervous fasting of anticipation. It is a fasting like that

of a bride and groom before their union.

Periodically, the Church gathers to pray during these days,

slowly building toward the prolonged vigil of Saturday night,

which is an awesome recital of the great Scripture stories,

climaxing with the story of the Risen Lord. And then, when the

great communion of saints has been invoked and the Spirit

called upon to enter these waters, and the elect have strongly

renounced Satan and professed their faith in the Father, Son,

and Holy Spirit, the Church baptizes, confirms and gathers

these, now wet and sweet-smelling people, at the table for Eu-

charist.

HOLY COMMUNION

I Am the Bread of Life John Michael Talbot

I am the bread of life, All who eat this bread will never die.

I am God’s love revealed, I am broken that you might be healed.

All who eat of this heavenly bread, All who drink this cup of the covenant.

You will live forever, For I will raise you up.

I am the bread of life, All who eat this bread will never die.

I am God’s love revealed, I am broken that you might be healed.

No one who comes to me shall hunger again.

No one who believes shall ever thirst, All that the father draws.

Shall come to me and I shall give them rest.

I am the bread of life, All who eat this bread will never die.

I am God’s love revealed, I am broken that you might be healed.

An Act of Spiritual Communion My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You.

Amen.

Holy Virgin of Guadalupe, Queen of the Angels and Mother of the Amer-icas. We fly to you today as your beloved children. We ask you to inter-cede for us with your Son, as you did at the wedding in Cana. Pray for us, loving Mother, and gain for our nation and world, and for all our families and loved ones, the protection of your holy angels, that we may be spared the worst of this illness. For those already afflicted, we ask you to obtain the grace of healing and deliverance. Hear the cries of those who are vulnerable and fearful, wipe away their tears and help them to trust. In this time of trial and testing, teach all of us in the Church to love one another and to be patient and kind. Help us to bring the peace of Jesus to our land and to our hearts. We come to you with confidence, knowing that you truly are our compassionate mother, health of the sick and cause of our joy. Shelter us under the mantle of your protection, keep us in the embrace of your arms, help us always to know the love of your Son, Jesus. Amen

Jesus, Remember Me Jacques Berthier

THE LORD’S PRAYER (RECITED) HOLY COMMUNION

You Alone Sarah Hart /Dwight Liles

You alone are holy, you alone are Lord.

You alone are worthy to be honored and adored.

Mercy you have given, kindness you have shown.

Love is you alone.

Who of us is sinless in this place?

Who of us deserves your saving grace?

Who of us is good at all without your blessed love

that falls upon our hearts to heal our brokenness?

What is there to do but thank you, then,

for the gift that we might call you friend?

Greater love has not been known than

that for which

you gave your only son, that you might see us,

pure and blessed.
