TRINITY REFORMED CHURCH September 2019
Connections
SAMUEL’S BLANKETS
Meet Samuel Started in 2015 at age 9, Samuel wanted to do something to help the homeless stay warm in the winter.
He set out with a mission, with each year growing more and more, people from all over joined together to
help him and support his cause. Samuel knows that blankets get dirty and damaged when exposed to the
elements after a while and wants to make sure those who need them will have one every year.
2015 Goal: 200 Blankets Collected 320
2016 Goal: 400 Blankets Collected 906
2017 Goal: 800 Blankets Collected 1,626
2018 Goal: 1800 Blankets Collected 2,585
2019 Goal is yet to be announced, but we are collecting at drop box locations!
This kid has a mission and a heart for the homeless, and has grown beyond Kalamazoo all of the way to
Holland. Help Samuel meet his goal. Deposit your new or like-new blankets in the drop box located at
Trinity beginning September 8. We will be collecting blankets through Thanksgiving.
You can meet Samuel in person on Sunday, September 8 during our worship service.

With the beginning of the church program year, we are pleased to announce our next hymn sing. Join with
friends and family at 6:00 PM on Sunday, September 15 for an evening of song. Deb
Koopmans will be at the organ and John Taylor on the grand piano. Plan now to come and
raise our voices together in praise to God. The offering will support the work of Samuel’s
Blankets. A time of fellowship with pie and coffee following.
Mark your calendar for the next hymn sing that is being planned for December 1, the first
Sunday of Advent at 3:00 PM. Please note the time change.
It’s been amazing to spend eight months this year walking through the book of Genesis. We’ve marveled at God’s creation, God’s gracious gifts and God’s amazing faithfulness to God’s promises. As we come to the fall, we are eager to continue our walk through scripture into the book of Exodus.
If Genesis is the book about beginnings – of seeds being planted and promises being sown – Exodus is the book about identity. In Exodus, God’s people are called. God’s people are liberated and empowered. God’s people learn who this God is… and God begins to shape them into the people they were called to be.
We will be journeying through Exodus together from September all the way through the end of the year, and we pray that God will use our time in this powerful book to call us… to liberate and empower us… to show us more of who God is… and to shape us into the church we are called to be, here in the time and place God is meeting us.
Join us on the journey, beginning September 8th!

Chad Vanden Bosch, ASM’s Africa Director and RCA Missionary, is coming to Michigan this month!
It's been over three years since Chad has been able to leave Mozambique. While his trip here will be very brief (and unfortunately without Dara and their girls), you are invited to an informal evening with Chad on September 6. You’ll have the opportunity to talk with Chad and hear a personal update on the Vanden Bosch family and the ministry in Mozambique.
Here are the details:
• WHERE: Audio Scripture Ministries' Holland office, 760 S Waverly Rd, Holland, MI
• WHEN: Friday, September 6 from 5-7 PM
• WHAT: Chad will share at 6 pm about the ministry and the soon-to-be-sent 40 foot shipping container, and we’ll enjoy a relaxed time of food, fellowship and prayer for the Vanden Bosch family
This will be an evening you won’t want to miss! Please feel free to share this invitation with other people you know who might be interested and let Audio Scripture Ministries know you are coming.
God is doing wonderful things through His Word using the Vanden Bosch family and their teams in Mozambique. Thank you for your continued prayers and support for Chad, Dara, their family and the ASM teams in Mozambique!
Volunteer Opportunity
We are in the process of updating our health and
safety policies. If you would be willing to read and
edit the current policy, we could use your input.
Most of the communication will be done via email
with a meeting expected before the final draft is
submitted to consistory for approval. Please
contact Pastor Deb or Pastor Phil if you would like
to be part of this project.

Men’s Wednesday Morning Bible Study
Among the creeds and confessions recognized by the Reformed Church, the Heidelberg Catechism is one of the oldest written as a teaching tool for young people, a guide for preaching and a form of confessional unity among early Protestant Churches in Germany. Many adults remember studying this and memorizing many of the 129 questions and answers which outline beliefs of the Protestant
faith. Those who have not grown up in the Reformed tradition may have heard reference to this confession in worship, but are not familiar with its specifics. The Wednesday Morning Men’s Bible Study will be working through the catechism beginning September 11. Meeting time is 6:30-7:30 allowing those who need to be to work by 8:00 the opportunity to start the day with a study of faith. Those with more flexible schedule can choose to join in breakfast at Marlena’s. We meet in the church office workroom and the coffee pot will be ready. See Bill Van Auken if you are interested in a study book that accompanies our lessons. Have a non-Trinity friend whom you think might be interested? Invite them along.
Who: Men who want to join other guys in a study of faith
What: Study of the Heidelberg Catechism
When: Wednesday mornings 6:30 beginning September 4
Where: Trinity Church office workroom
How: Set the alarm and show up
Why: We all need to keep growing in our faith
Discipleship 201 Class
What does it mean to be a Disciple of Jesus? How do you be a Christ-follower when you can’t see Him? I was baptized as a baby; what’s all this talk about being “born again”? Isn’t being “filled with the Spirit” only for Pentecostals?
These and other life-changing questions are what we’d like to talk about and study in the Fall class, Discipleship 201. Whether you’ve been in the church for decades or you’re new in your faith journey, you are welcome! It will be part of our Midweek Wednesday program for the first quarter of the fall semester. We start Wednesday, September 11. Y’all are welcome!
