Troubleshooting Netboot

Before Troubleshooting the service, Stop the Service...

* Stop the netboot service first*

1. Verify Interface and Volumes enabled

2. Click Save

Verify Machine Model, attempting to boot is not blocked

Using Workgroup Manager to troubleshoot Netboot

Open

1. Verify Imaging account is Present

2. Password is imaging

AFP User Account Access

Verify Share point is Shared with Proper Permissions

Enable ACL on volumes

1. Verify Imaging account is Owner, with R/W access

2. Verify Admin group is in Group with R/W access

Open to mount Netinstall

Verify Correct Permissions in order to modify NetInstall Set

1. Verify Owner account and Group have Read/Write

Access

1. Also Verify the same permissions for the “Resources” folder

Permission issues with lanadmin / xserveadmin

1. Propagate permissions for the NetRestore.app and “Resources” folder

Open to modify configurations

Verify NetRestore Configurations are correct

In case you see this Error... when opening NetRestore to modify Configurations

Apple + I, “Get info”

Navigate to /private/tmp/netrestore.log

Change Read Only to Read/Write

Access

- After modifying “netrestore.log”, NetRestore should open fine.

* NOTE: * In case modifying permission on netrestore.log doesn’t work, then trash netrestore.log and then reopen Netrestore.app

Make changes and Click save

Verify the image location. Not within a folder.

Verify server IP

Always Eject Volume, when completed

modifying Netinstall Set Configurations

BeforeStartingNetbootServiceAgain...

Verify DHCP is issuing IP to client machine

Verify Client can see Netboot Server

Other Solutions

* Restart the AFP services* Restart the server

* Recreate the Netinstall Set* Move NBI set to BootHD
