Truck maintenance tips to avoid catastrophic truck accidents

IntroductionTruck driving is a demanding profession in so many ways- financially, physically, and emotionally. Hence,we want you to be as safe and comfortable on the road as possible. Here are a few truck maintenancetips for avoiding catastrophic accidents in the best possible manner.

1. Test the tiresAt least once a week you should be checking on your tire pressure, and if you’re on a long trip, check thepressure more frequently. Underinflated and overinflated tires can both create issues which can easilylead to an accident.

2. Check the fluidsTransmission, oil, brake fluids, and power steering are the lifeblood of your vehicle. Dirty fluids canaffect the performance of your engine badly giving unusual results in unexpected circumstances. Avoidthis by checking your oil at least once a month and follow the recommended oil and transmission fluidchange schedules mentioned in your truck’s service manual.

3. Look out for shaky brakesYour brakes can be exceptionally good at telling you when it’s time for new ones. For example, do youfeel them vibrating or hear them squealing when you are stopping the truck? That’s a sign that you needa new one ASAP.

4. Keep your lights in good orderTurn signals, headlights, and taillights are critical to avoiding catastrophic truck accidents. So keep a tabon your lights and ensure they are in a fine working condition. Remember, burnt-out bulbs, malfunctioning brake lights, and misaligned headlights are a recipe of trouble. Never ignore them in anypossible manner.

5. Check your truck’s wiper blades

Clear visibility is an absolute must for safe truck driving. Wiper blades wear out over time. So be sure tocheck your wiper blades and look for cracks, stiffness, and wear on a regular basis.

A final word…Always practice defensive driving while you are on the road. Remember, aggression and speed won’t doyou a whole lot of good in the long run. Stay safe and drive safe. A small step like that can go a long wayindeed.
