Groundwater:-• A portion of water which is penetrated into the
earth is called the groundwater. Not all the underground water is groundwater. The water collecting into (in a) well is a groundwater.
• Source of groundwater is rain and snow that falls to the ground a portion of which percolates down into the ground to become groundwater.
Type of Groundwater• Groundwater classified according to its origin.
1. Juvenile Water
• Magmatic water• Volcanic water• Cosmic water
2. Meteoric water
3. Connate Water• (Connate means originating together• This water may have been derived from oceanic or fresh water
sources• Groundwater encountered at great depths in sedimentary
rocks as a result of water having been trapped in marine sediments at the time of their deposition.
• Sometimes connate water is referred to as fossil water and these waters are normally saline. . This is entrapped brackish water.
• Water in Lathi sandstone is good example of connate water.
6. Internal Water
7. Marine Water
4. Metamorphic Water
5. Re-juvenated water
