Message from the President
Melissa Orlando I hope everyone is enjoying their summer. I’m sure those of
you with children are cherishing the last days before the
school season begins. It’s amazing how quickly time flies!
Speaking of time flying, the upcoming ISM
meeting year is quickly approaching us. The ISM
Board of Directors have been planning since this past spring
to bring you a new and exciting line up for the 2014
meeting year. The first general meeting of the year is
coming up on Tuesday, September 23rd as a dinner meeting
and we will once again be meeting at Greenbriar Hills
Country Club (note: please remember that blue denim is not
allowed). Paula Matousek, our Director of Professional
Development, has secured an energetic speaker to edu
us on the topic of How to Ensure Effective Information
Security Buys. I personally hope to see lots of familiar
faces and hopefully several new ones as well!
The Board has honed this year’s discussions in on the things
that we do well as an organization and opportunities to
make this an even more dynamic organization for each of
you.

Message from the President – Melissa Orlando (Continued)
You will see in upcoming editions of BUYLines and you will hear me speak about it in the President
message, some of the out of the box thinking that this great board has been doing. We are finalizing plans
to offer more educational opportunities, community volunteer opportunities, and creative ways to attract
new members. What does this mean for you…..quite simply, it means that you get even more networking
opportunities, more chances to learn new things and receive different opinions and insights from industry
peers, and that you have a passionate and dedicated board that is here to work for you!
The first item that has come from this revised approach is to add a food drive as part of the September
general meeting. Above, you heard the great reasons to attend this upcoming meeting and now I’d like to
entice you to bring at least one canned or dry food item to contribute to the St. Louis Area Foodbank. Their
mission is to feed hungry people by distributing food through their partner agencies, and educate the public
about the nature of and solutions to the problems of hunger. And the best part is that ISM-St. Louis will be
matching all donations! This is a convenient way to help out your local community and have your
donations matched!
With that said, stay tuned for developments and further detail surrounding some of the things that will
transpire this meeting year. Again, I look forward to seeing all of you at the upcoming meeting on
September 23rd
!
Help us fight hunger in St. Louis and participate in the food drive.
