Lately I was looking at a multiple range of online magazines, in each one there seemed to me a frustrating disharmony between my personal "Likes"&" Dislikes". This frustration spurred me on

to produce my own creation amongst the myriad of photozines mushrooming online. A place where I could feature photographers I appreciate the work

(there are so many that I think I’m going to publish 100 issues!)

The hardest issue I was confronted with when endeavoring to produce this magazine, a personal work that could stand out amongst the ranks of publications,

was deciding on a concept for Underdogs.

I have often discovered with my many encounters with artists over the years the reluctance or even dread that the interview or self analysis of work can produce in the mi nd of the individual.

This sometimes due to the belief the work speaks for itself, that explanations can limit the imagination of the viewers own interpretation of the work or even more

honestly they are bewildered with what to say about themselves.

So I decided to let them free to write or not about themselves and / or their work. The question I asked was which camera(s) they use and to select

one of their own favorite picture. They had the possibility to explain why or not. It’s a difficult exercice so I thought it could be interesting to see what would come out.

I was surprised!

I want to thank all of them for their involvement and their enthusiasm.I also want to thank Max Lindquist who helped me to develop

the project and to make the final choice amongst the different covers/logos I made.

I tried to make an ecclectic choice of works. And I will do again in the next issue (october 2014).

Thanks all for looking.

I currently use a fixed lens canonsureshot and have recently been usinga Canon Canonet QL17 GIII which is a change for me. I love the flexibilityand sleekness of point & shoot camerasbut they are often limited withcapability and quality. So from time to time I pick up my Pentax SLR andshoot manually, but it's a pain lugging it around. I like that rangefinders fall in between the scale of the two so I'menjoying using the rangefinder more.

We cannot predict what’s going to happen next. Thus Ialways have several analog cameras with me so that I canreact to unexpected situations. The camera is like a brush forme. With the help of different types of cameras I am able toachieve exactly the effect I want. That works because I knowall my cameras very well and I dare say that we have kind of an intimate relationship. For this reason I work with theanalog cameras in a quick and simple way. If your mind isfree enough you will find beauty everywhere. With myphotography I do not focus on a particular theme because I already have built a huge scenery in my heart upon which I can draw. Finally I use the camera to record my experiencesin life. If you are standing in front of my pictures with thefeeling of being touched emotionally I think you are justexperiencing my own, personal language.

CAMERAS Leica M4, Leica R3, Yashica T3, and T4.

I always go out with the camera. We are immersed in a versatile, emerging, full of stimuli reality. Like a collage. Attentive to whatarises there I go, from instant to instant. A game of chancebetween asceticism and lust.Timeless, absorbed. Interactingwith things. Looking to satisfy a voracious appetite, a passion.A new way of seeing the world.A sort of secret language. The light, stuff that binds everythingAll is juxtaposed, mixed, cut, paste.Textures, shadows, lights, feelings... A necessity.A need to express. An infinite reality. An endless search.

CAMER ASI'm currently using a Fuji X20, I like it because it's small enough to fit in my work bag and it takes good enough quality photos. And it looks lovely. I also use a Canon EOS 650 and a Panasonic LX7.

I like to shoot unabashedly real and unsentimental and consider my photos more punk thanpretty. My background asmakeup artist (nars + barneys)and graphic designer hasinstilled a kind of visualstandard. Though I photographmundane scenes I am veryselective and only feel myphotos are successful when they function on an aestheticlevel of color and form.

CAMERASMy main camera is a mediumformat Mamiya 645 AF, though I occasionally shoot 35mm on an Olympus XA and digital with an OMD.

Most of my photography is donebetween where I work and where I live, when I have time to walkinstead of taking the bus. But I alsolike to go out on sunday mornings. The streets are really quiet and empty and I get the feeling of having them all to myself.

CAMERASI am in a period of exploringdifferent film cameras, both 35mmand medium format. My exploration has included many different models, frombrands as Fujifilm, Leica, Mamiya, Minolta, Nikon, Olympus, Ricoh and Rollei. Film cameras are cheap and solid and there are so many to choose from, eachwith its own unique quality. The cameras I own and use at this point:Nikon FM (Nikkor 50mm f1.8 AIS),Nikon FM3A (nikkor 28mm f2.8 AIS),Leica M6 (50mm summicron-m),Leica MDa (35mm Zeiss Biogonf2.8 zm), Olympus Mju II(compact). Rolleicord (Schneider 80mm f3.5),Mamiya C330s (80mm Sekor f2.8)and Balda Super Baldax (Schneider 80mm f2.9).Of these cameras, the one I have the strongest relationshipwith is the Nikon FM. It was my first non-compact camera. I got a black one when I was 15 from a neighbor who was a photographer. The one I havenow is chrome and bought after wearing out the first one.
