T|m> social reunion and picnic of Tuolumneresident* at HumboldtPark wa* one of

‘he most delightful affairs that have transpiredthis •‘-ason. ‘‘Old Tuolumne" was well rep*resented, not only by present residents of thateountv. Lnt by numbers nfladies and penile-men who formerly dwelt in that portion ofourState. Many old friends and acquaintanceswho bad not met for yeats, were brought to*gether and renewed their former friendly re-lations on this pleasant occasion. The fre-quent greetings of old-time friends, gave theaffair mure the appearance of a family gath-ering on a small scale than an ordinary pic-nic. The pleasant arbors and seats underthe trees aroundjthe grounds were all occupiedby little partiea, who had come prepared withwell-filled baskets and hampers, to make aday of it, and the floor of tha dancing pavil-ion was pretty welt crowded throughout theday. Kidd's splendid brass band discouisedenlivening music for the lovers of the dance, acd we can truthfully say that "all wentfnerry ns n marriage bell." About two o'-clock, L I*. McOsrty called the assemblageto order in the Pavillion, and, after a fewpreliminary remarks suitable to the occasion, announced the names of the officers who hadl»een nominated for the Association for thennsuing year. A vote was taken and thenominations werfe unanimouslyratified. Thefollowing are the officers; President, Hon.if. M. Cavis-, of Stockton ; Vice President,frH l/uljof San Francisco; Secretary, L.P. McCarty, of San Francisco; Committee,Hev. 0. P. Fitagerald, Tbornlcn Wesley, L.Jacobi, Z. 11. Cunningham. C. C. P. Seve-rance, C. E. McCohker, O. L. Chamberlain,11. Harter, of San Francisco ; E. 0. Snow ofAlameda; Dr. D. M. Baldwin. Elon Jones,Oakland ; General George S. Evans, J. 11.Olive, Hon. Otis Perio, of Stockton; J. J.Massey, Vallejo,

Hod. J. M. Cavis, the newly eloted Presi-dent, was called upon for a speech, and res-ponded in a few happy and pertinent re-marks which were well received. The danc-ing was then resumed and kept op until thetime to depart arrived. The occasion willlong he remembered by all who participated.

Thk Asking or a Pass From Fisk.—TheNew York correspondent of the Chicago Re-publican gives this version of a late incidentin New York. The profanity used mighthave been omitted and the story lose none ofUs point:

This story is told about town, and thoughI do not vouch for it, it sounds ns if part ofit might bn true. James Fisk. Jr., was sit-ting in hia luxurious private office at theOperaHouse, when an ill-favored man entered, andasked for a pass to tie West.

“Who are you, and what is your busi-ness?"

“My name ia McFarland—Daniel McFar-land. lam a lawyer by profession. You !have beard ot me, of course. I have a na-1lionai reputation now.”

“Yes, you have, I know you now, and j■the whole country knows you. too, na a d--d jscoundrel who deserves hanging. A lawyerhv profession and a murderer by practice. 'Your impudence is boundless. I’ve heard all |sorts of pretexts for bogging passes ; but by jt»—d never knew a man to ask for a pass be-1fore because he was a d -d assnsain. TheErie road mnv not run Sunday schools, but jby o—d it doesn't chalk men’s hats becausethey murder gentlemen in cold blood."

At Ibis point McFarland moved to the door. !"Stop." added Fisk, “I’ll give you a pass'away from New York if you'll agree never to jcome back; we’ve villains enough here nowwithout you. When I build n road to h—IIcome and s»c me, and you shall have tb» firstride." Before the words were out of Fisk’smouth the murderer had slunk away.

Bays fbe Ban Joaquin Republican: “We jinadvertantly committed an error in stating jthat the Boston party yesterday, gave a wait- |er at one of our principal hotels a three cent jnickel. Wc should have said the piece was |silver and of tha daovonmation known as five I• cuts. A lady of the party gave a waiter athree cent nicklc. The young man has quitthe hotel and invested hia money in land. The Bostonians were unusually liberal du-ring their stay. The party consisted of fiftyperson- and they gave the waiters eight centsand spent thirty-fi.va cents at the bar.
