UDL - Representation For ESL students - materials and strategies to incorporate

• Provide closed captions when viewing clips or documentaries.

• Provide materials in students language.

• Pre-Teach vocabulary- discuss words, meanings, use it in sentence, and show a picture.

• Show clips, pictures and artifacts of student native homes.

• Label shelves and items in native language throughout the classroom.

• Technology – Reading translator

UDL - Engagement

• A reading buddy- two students that take turns reading passages or pages from a book.

• A small group of students playing rhyming word or beginning sound bingo.

• Student listening to book on audio(with headphones), while reading along.

• Students playing literacy games on the computer such as http://www.starfall.com/

• Students give one another spelling drills, to prepare for upcoming spelling test.

Teaching strategies that engages students in literacy

UDL -Expression

• Allow students to make-up their own song to help them remember.

• Students will create and decorate their own multiplication chart. These charts will be laminated.

• Allow students to go on website that incorporates time tables gameshttp://www.multiplication.com/games/all-games

• Give students manipulatives (triangles or cubes) allow then to create groups to find the correct product.

• Students will dance and sing to multiplication rap song.
