Updates about Moodle 3.9 New Features

A. H5P Interactive Content – Interactive Video

1. Login Moodle. Choose a course. Choose a session. Click “Add an activity or resource”.

2. Click “H5P Interactive Content”.

3. At “Select content type”, click “Interactive Video”.

4. There would be a tutorial tour. Click “Exit” to skip or click

“Next” to continue.

5. Click the “+” icon to add a video.

6. You could upload a brand new video, or paste a youtube link. And then click “Insert”.

7. Click “Next Step – Add interactions”.

8. Type a Title. To add an interaction, drag an element from

the toolbar and drop it onto the video.

9. For example, I drag and drop the “true / false” icon to the

video. Set the display time, eg. 0:10 – 0:20. Set whether you want the video to be paused. Choose whether the interaction to be a button or an expanded poster. Input a title.

10. Type the question and set the correct answer. Set whether enable “Retry” option and enable “Show Solution” option. Set the feedback on correct and wrong answers. Click “Done” when okay.

11. When preview the Interactive Video, the question would be

popped out when 00:10.

12. A feedback would be shown for correct or wrong answer as

configured.

13. Another example. I drag and drop the “multiple choice”

icon to the video. Set the display time, eg. 4:00 – 4:30. Set whether you want the video to be paused. Choose whether the interaction to be a button or an expanded poster. Input a title.

14. Type the question and set the correct answer. Set the feedback on correct and wrong answers. At “Behavioural settings”, set whether enable “Retry” option and enable “Show Solution” option. Click “Done” when okay.

15. When preview the Interactive Video, a button would be

popped out when 04:00. When the button is clicked, the question would be shown.

16. Student could retry and click Continue.

17. Step 3 “Summary Task” is optional. If configured, a summary would be popped out at the end of the video. Student needs to choose the correct statement. Set to display the summary at number of seconds before the video ends.

18. At preview mode, a summary dialog would be popped out 3

seconds before the video ends as configured.

19. Student needs to pick the correct statement and click

Continue.

20. A little summary would be shown after the whole video ends.

B. H5P Interactive Content – Memory Game

1. Login Moodle. Choose a course. Choose a session. Click “Add an activity or resource”.

2. Click “H5P Interactive Content”.

3. At “Select content type”, click “Memory Game”.

4. Type a title. For the first card, click “+ Add” to add image.

Type the alternative text.

5. Add a description to pop up when once the two matching cards are found.

6. (Optional) Add an audio track so that when the card is

turned, a sound would be played.

7. (Optional) If you want to match 2 different cards in pairs

instead of matching 2 same cards, add here. Click “Save and display” when okay.

8. At preview mode, student could start matching the cards.

9. Once a pair has been matched, the description would pop

out.

10. When all the pairs have been matched, it prompts “Good

work!”

C. H5P Interactive Content – Find the Words

1. Login Moodle. Choose a course. Choose a session. Click “Add an activity or resource”.

2. Click “H5P Interactive Content”.

3. At “Select content type”, click “Find the words”.

4. Type the title. Input a word list, without space and special

characters.

5. Set the orientations such as allow going downwards or upwards, left to right or right to left, etc. Click “Save and display” when okay.

6. At preview mode, student could start finding the words.

7. Retry button is available.

D. H5P File Upload – Flashcards

1. Login Moodle. Choose a course. Choose a session. Click “Add an activity or resource”.

2. Click “H5P Interactive Content”.

3. Suppose you find that “Flashcards” is very interesting and

want to put it in your course. Click “Details”.

4. Click “Content Demo” to know more about it.

5. If you want to use the H5P component directly, click the

“Reuse” icon at the bottom left hand corner.

6. Click “Download as an .h5p file”. Save the file.

7. Go back to Moodle. Choose a course. Choose a session.

Click “Add an activity or resource”.

8. Click “H5P” this time, not “H5P Interactive Content”.

9. Type the Name. Upload the file. Click “Save and display”

when okay.

10. The H5P item would appear, in blue colour.

E. Assignment – Allow Attachment

1. In the older version of Moodle, attachments were not supported when creating Assignment Activity. Teachers need to upload a document of questions separately.

2. In new version of Moodle, attachments were supported

when creating Assignment Activity. Click “Turn editing on” at the top right hand corner. Click “Add an activiy or resource”.

3. Choose “Assignment”.

4. You can upload a file as attachment. Click “Save and

display” when okay.

5. The “Assignment 2” activity is ready.

6. There is an attachment in “Assignment 2” activity.

F. Online Test – Last Submission Grace Period

1. In older version of Moodle, when creating Online Quiz, you could configure “When time expires, open attempts are submitted automatically”. All the answered questions would be counted even if the student has no time to click the final “submit” button. However, if a long question is being answering, it would not be counted.

2. In new version of Moodle, “Last Submission Grace Period” is introduced. When time expires, student could still have several minutes to . Click “Turn editing on” at the top right hand corner. Click “Add an activiy or resource”.

3. Choose “Quiz”.

4. At “Timing” section, you could configure “When time

expires, there is a grace period when open attempts can be submitted, but no more questions answered”. You could also enable “submission grace period” and input, say, 5 minutes. Click “Save and display” when okay.
