Summer and preparations for Christmas are well under way – why is it always a surprise that this time of year is so busy! On behalf of
UPA I should like to wish everyone in Uranquinty a peaceful and happy Christmas and our very best wishes for a prosperous New Year.
COMMUNITY HALL UPDATE Bookings for the Hall have been ongoing, and it is satisfying to see how popular this venue has become. If you would like to book
the Hall for any kind of celebration or meeting, please contact Maree Crosskell, Hall Coordinator by email at uran-
quinty@hotmail.com or via the venues tab on our website, www.uranquinty.com.au
Taekwondo classes continue to be a success every Tuesday and Thursday evening, but more members are always welcome so come
along and have a look if you and your kids are interested.
COMMUNITY STREET LIBRARY
Uranquinty Public School and UPA are working with the Men’s Shed to get bookshelves organised at the school and at the rest area
so that visitors and community members will be able to be part of this worldwide project.
WAGGA WAGGA CITY COUNCIL UPDATE

ber and hopefully a decision will be announced on the recommendations of the consulting engineer’s report. Once the Business
Paper agenda has been finalised on Thursday 13 December and made public, we will be able to lodge a Public Address applica-
tion form

of this application.
URANQUNTY COMMUNITY SAFETY GROUP
The UCSG has regular meetings and these will be advised in the Uranquinty Resi-
dents Facebook page. The UCSG will meet again on 22 January 2019 at 7.30pm at
the Hall. All welcome. Volunteers are needed in various capacities so please consider
coming along.
Thanks to a grant received from WWCC, the UCSG is now constructing a permanent
sand bay at the rear of the Men’s Shed property. The slab is down, now for the walls!
CHRISTMAS CAROL CONCERT This year’s concert took place on Saturday 1 December and everyone had an enjoyable evening. Santa arrived on his firetruck with lol-
lies for the kids, and the Wagga Wagga Rugby Men’s Choir entertained us all with a medley of Christmas carols, as well as the choir
from Uranquinty Public School.
Our thanks to everyone who helped make this annual event a success, from the Rural Fire Service in providing the truck, the CWA ladies
who helped with decorations, the Uniting Church BBQ and the UPS P&C cake stall. Our thanks also to our sponsors Origin Energy,
Riverina Water, the General Store – and of course to Ged Madden for his role as MC and to Santa for making a special effort to get to
Quinty!
Don’t forget the annual Christmas Tree decorating competition and the decorated cow competition. Winners will be announced before
Christmas. Please send an email of your cow to uranquinty@hotmail.com so we can identify the winners.

Merry Christmas and a Very Happy New Year!
URANQUINTY SKATEPARK NEWS
We were hoping to have our skatepark completed by the end of 2018, unfortunately a few contractor hiccups meant
we have pushed completion back to 2019. Council’s Parks & Recreation officers have been working on getting the
best set of outcomes for the skatepark with the funds we have. The park design should be finalised before Christmas
and we can progress from there.
The committee thanks the Quinty community for their continued support and looks forward to seeing our skatepark
come to fruition.

Preschool News December 2018
Uranquinty Preschool recently had their end of year concert and art show.
Although, the weather was cold and windy the children were so proud to show
off their art and sing for their families. We also showcased our special weaving
project that we had worked on over the term. With money for the CSU CUP
Grant we were able to employ artist Trish Harrison to work with the children.
We created a fish sustainably made from twisted willow and wool.
Another highlight of the term was our Indonesian Day. This was a celebration
of our work with the ELLA program during the year. Our Indonesian friend Will
Darmawan came to visit and we set up a number of play experiences where
the children could practice their Indonesian. This included a shop in the home
area, games and the BeeBot robot. We finished the day with an Indonesian
book of words. The children took it in turns to name the objects with Will.
The children have enjoyed the Spring weather outside. They have particularly
enjoyed hunting for bugs and creepy crawlies. We have found that we have
lots of slaters in our garden and they can be found under the rocks and pavers.
Indie’s Nan donated four butterfly nets which the children have used to chase
the butterflies. We are always let them go so they can return to their natural
habitats.
We have lots of children going on to school in 2019. As part of our Transition
to School program we have completed School Transition Statements and have
offered the children various experiences to further develop literacy and
numeracy skills for school.
Enrolments are now being taken for 2019. We do have two vacancies on
Wednesdays for three and four year olds. Please contact the preschool on
6922 9787 for more information. The preschool is open Wednesday to Fridays
8.30 am to 4.00 pm.

Best wishes and safe travelling to all for the coming Christmas – New Year break.
This has once again been a busy year for the Quinty Mens Shed. A lot of time was
spent at the beginning of the year completing the work on the grounds of the Shed,
levelling and laying road base.
We sponsored the Uranquinty Community Safety Group in their successful bid for
a WWCC grant to build a sand bay. The construction of the slab is now complete
and the retaining walls will be added once the slab is cured.
The latter part of the year has been spent in the ongoing restoration of a pulpit
which was built for the first Kapooka Chapel around 1950 and taken out when the
new Chapel was built. The intention is for this pulpit to be installed in the foyer of
the new Chapel in a ceremony in March of 2019.
The Quinty Mens Shed, in conjunction with Uncle Toby’s and the Australian Mens
Shed Association, has organised a series of health and wellbeing presentations
which have been open to all members of the Community. The topics covered
were on the effects of prescription medication and on diabetes. We welcome any
suggestions for future topics as we hope to make this an ongoing feature of Shed
and Village life.
We hold weekly fundraising raffles at the Quinty Pub and our last raffle for the
year will be a monster raffle on Wednesday 19th December. Our thanks to all who
have supported the Mens Shed.

URANQUINTY NSW 2652 Wow what a term and a fantastic start to the 2018 season. The clubhouse renovation is complete and the courts are resurfaced and lines are down. A huge thank you to all who came and helped demolish the interior, put permanent lines down and put the clubhouse back together. The transformation is amazing!! The club attended the NSW Tennis Awards as one of for finalists for the most outstanding club –country category. Whilst Tennis Central took out the prize we were honoured to have been acknowledged for all the efforts the community and club have put in to make our club the amazing place it is. Just a month later Maree and Skye attended the Newcombe medal in Melbourne. (Tennis Australia’s night of nights) It was at these awards that a video was presented to the tennis community on what the club and Uranquinty community have achieved through tennis in the past 12-18months. This video was very well received and had a lot of people talking on the night. Community Play Coaching and Match play were a success again this term. With children who are able to rally taking part in Match Play playing the Pedal Tractor Cup. This has allowed children to play a timed match of tennis allowing the skills they have learnt over previous coaching sessions to play a fun game whilst still receiving some “tips” whilst they refine their skills. Community Play Hot shots coaching has seen a huge improvement in children’s skills and ability to hit different shots. Next term we will continue with coaching and match play. Over the past month two more coaches have been trained and gained their qualification through Tennis Australia. We look forward to Coach Mark and Coach Tarryn getting out on court next term. Keep an eye out at the beginning of January for days and time slots for both Coaching and Match play.
The Tractor Cup Grand final was held on Dec 14th. Congratulations to the John Deere team on taking out the trophy. Their opponents Case iH played well all term however fell short on the night. A close final was held for third and fourth place with only one point separating them at the end of the night. Well done Claas on your win and better luck Massey Ferguson next term. On January 10th four club juniors will travel to Sydney to be part of a Hot Shots show case on centre court at the Sydney International. We wish Freja, Tilda, Leon and Oliver all the best.
On Feb 8th the club will be hosting a fundraising event for type 1 diabetes. All money raised on the evening will go to Juvenille Diabetes Research Foundation. There are some amazing items up for raffle, entertainment, sausage sizzle and entertainment on offer. Please see the event facebook page for details (24hr HIT for T1D) and the Uranquinty Tennis Club facebook page for more information. Have a merry Christmas and a safe New Year. If you would like access to the courts over the holidays please contact the Uranquinty Tennis Club Facebook page or a committee member or see Sue at the servo.
