Who is he?

Uranus, also known as Ouranos, is the god of the sky and the first ruler of the Universe.

He is the son of Gaea, the Earth goddess, and is also considered to be Gaea’s husband.

Gaea is thought to have created Uranus without any help

Uranus and Gaea

As the husband of Gaea, together both of them had created many offspring.

Their offspring includes the original twelve Titans, the three Cyclopes, and the three Hecatoncheires.

Uranus and Gaea created the first generation of Titans the twelve sons and daughters includes:

Cronus Rhea Iapetus Theia Hyperion Themis Crius Phoebe Coeus Tethys Oceanus Mnemosyne

Myths

According to myths, Uranus did not like his children that much.

Directly following their birth, Uranus had sent, or practically forced, his children into the dark world of Tartarus( a dark place beneath the surface of the Earth, also known as Gaea’s belly).

Gaea was furious and was suffering from immense pain due to this occurrence; she had begged for aid from her children to stop Uranus from this catastrophe, but only Cronus had came to her rescue.

Myths

As Cronus came to his mothers rescue, he had sliced away his father’s sex organs, and had tossed them into the sea.

According to another myth, as Cronus cut of his father’s genitals, Aphrodite was born from the foam where they landed.

It is also stated that after Uranus had been castrated, his blood fell on to the Earth(Gaea), and had created the great Giants, Erinyes, and the the Meliaes(nymphs).

Conclusion

Finally, after Uranus had been castrated the sky had cleared or separated from Gaea(the Earth), and Cronus had became the king of gods. Later, Cronus had brought back his brothers from Tartarus, and had became the supreme ruler of the World.

Shortly after Cronus had came to a fall, and was overtaken by Zeus who had became the supreme god of all Greek gods.
