revisions as Google+ grows and matures!

The Job Search Process needs to be

balancedThere is no 1 way a person finds a job

My Job Search Philosophy

1. The Job Search Process is both a Social and Informative one

2. Landing a Job Offer can be very difficult3. Getting the Job Offer can be time

consuming4. Landing a job should be more than

ensuring a paycheck

form a professional and

or personal relationship

The Job Seeker’s ProfileIntroduction

What is the 1st thing I should know about you?

Bragging RightsWhat do I need to know to get to know you better?

EducationHome & Work

Use discretion & privacy when making content information available!

Landing a Job Offer is not necessarily based on who you

know,

But, who knows about you!

Keeping Everything Separate• Currently, the social networking platforms fall

into 2 Networking categories• Open Networks– Like Twitter, unless you have a blocked account

• Closed Networks– Like Facebook & LinkedIn, where you need to

grant permission to join your network• Many social networks fail to discriminate or

disassociate the professional from the personal

Aligning all of your circles

• Your first step is to understand and to evaluate your connections

• Many of you have already done this• Look at your social connections• Then look at your other social network platforms– Facebook– Linkedin– Twitter– …etc

CIRCLES

Allows you to group your connections any way you wishCurrently only personal accounts can be “encircled”1 connection can be included in more than 1 circleGoogle+ User must use their real name

Your Streams & Threads

The Originator of the Thread

The Date of the thread

As much of the tread as will fit

The number of replies to your

thread

HOMEA chronological listing of ContentMuch like the Facebook WallAre able to +1 your circle(s)’s postsMuting a post

Use with caution, prevents you from seeing updates to the post

Links to this postOpens the thread in a separate tab/window

Digital CurationMost employers want to know both the

professional & the personBe cognizant of “digital dirt”Your posts should reflect the value you

bringTIP: Avoid text only postsLinks and mediated content provide

greater value

What can you do for me & my organization?Your content needs to answer thisShare content that is forward thinking:

This is what I can do for you in the futureCoalesce your “outside content”:

Your blog posts, white paper’s, publications and conference or other presentations

Answer the question of “Do I fit in, in the corporate culture sense?”

SPARKSContent RecommendationsBased on the Google Search, Google+ and plus 1’sAny spark can be shared amongst your circle(s) or person(s)Content: Links, photo’s and video’sSparks are private, unless you share the content on your stream

Job Seeker’s Social Layer• Sharing Content can span intimacy to

planetary• It is important to broadcast that you

are seeking a job, rather than asking for 1

• Leverage weaker ties or connections• Engage your circles, rather than

communicate with• Reciprocate whenever possible!

Google+ HangoutsHas similar functionality to SkypeText, Voice and Video, all or any combination of the 3Hangouts are open or by invitationAre currently not recorded or archivedThe current maximum limit is 10 user accounts

Employers & HangoutsMore than just a phone screen, but less than a face-to-face interviewA multimedia approach to a phone screenA pseudo reference/character checkCan be efficient and convenientMuch like a panel phone screen, without the echo and background noise, hopefully

Job Seekers & HangoutsCan assist with professional developmentClasses and seminars are currently conducted and free of chargeInformational InterviewingCan I pick your brain regarding: A job, an industry, and my skill set?
