Using Zoom on an Android Device
Note: These instructions will step you through how to download the Zoom app onto your Android
device and point out the different functionalities of the Zoom app.
1. Log into your Android device
2. Go to the Google Play Store
3. Search for Zoom Cloud Meeting

4. Click on the Install option to download the Zoom Cloud Meetings app (It is free)
a. You can download the free app even if you don’t have an account on Google Play
5. The Zoom meeting shortcut will be installed on the device. Tap the Zoom app.

6. Click on the Sign In button using your Stratford login
7. Click on the SSO option

8. Enter in Stratford in the company domain field and tab the Continue option
9. Log in using your Stratford login credentials

10. Wait a few seconds and IF Zoom does not launch, click on the Launch Zoom button
11. This will take you into the Meet and Chat page of the Zoom client where you can quickly
a. Start the next upcoming meeting – Click on the start button to the right of the meeting
b. Continue a chat with those on the list – click on the name to open up an chat page

12. Other activities from the Android device:
a. Click on the Start meeting icon to host a meeting
b. Click on the Join a meeting icon to be a participant in a meeting

c. Click on the schedule a meeting icon to schedule a meeting
d. Click on the view upcoming meetings icon to view meetings, start an instant
meeting, invite participants to a meeting, or edit your personal meeting information.

e. To message with someone in your contact list, search for a contact using the magnify
option or click on the contact icon to view a list of contacts
f. Click on the Settings option to customize your profile, contacts, meetings,
notifications, and chat settings

g. Click on the Content option to view any content that was shared during a chat
h. Click on the star option to view a list of favorites used for chatting

i. Click on the magnifying option to search for a contact, message or content
from a message
j. Click on the + sign in a circle option to start a new message

13. When you are done with Zoom, close the app down
a. The next time you tap on the Zoom icon you will be connected into the zoom client.
b. You can always click on Settings, your profile, and tap the Sign out option. This will then
force you to sign back into Zoom the next time you tap on the Zoom app.
Reminders about an Android device:
An Android tablet or phone will have less options
When using video, you may only see 4 people per screen depending on the size of your Android
device
Calling in to a Zoom meeting using an Android device may disconnect and it defaults to your
Bluetooth connection
Using VOIP for a Zoom meeting using an Android device may be an issue if you need to take
another call. When the call ends you will return to the Zoom app but no one may be able to
hear you. You will need to leave the Zoom meeting. Sign out of the Zoom app, tap the Zoom
app to rejoin the meeting which will enable the microphone
Waze GPS will hang when you are in a zoom meeting
Always check out your device thoroughly before you use it. Your device may have more or less
options that what is being shown in this job aid
Hosting a Zoom meeting on an Android device:
1. Icons will be on the on the bottom of the device. If you cannot see the icons, tap the device in
the bottom right hand corner.
2. The following icons will be available to you:
Audio
Video
Share – access to items on your device, including a whiteboard
Participants
Access the Chat functionality from the Participants icon
More – which will allow additional functionality
Record
Disconnect Audio
Lock Share
Lock Meeting
Mute upon entry
Play Enter/Exit chime

3. The Audio and Video options allow the user to enable or disable their functionality

4. Share Content provides access to apps on your device such as the following list. The
functionality is different than on a PC or MAC where the Share option will allow the host or
participant to share open windows. Note: the whiteboard functionality does exist here.
In the example below the host clicked on the Website URL option
This opens up a pop up where you can enter in the website you would like to share;
Stratford Moodle URL and click on the Share option

For the whiteboard, click on the pencil icon at the bottom of the page to display the
whiteboard icons that will be on the bottom on the page. Same functionality exists on
all devices for the whiteboard option

5. The participants option will display all participants in the meeting, provide access to the chat
and invite option
6. The Chat option is available to chat to others in the meeting. Click on chat and type in your
message. Click Send for all to see the message

7. Click on the Invite option to invite participants via multiple options depending what is setup on
your device. Suggestion: Stratford University has one Zoom Room in University Administration.
8. More option will provide the options to record the meeting, set meeting settings or disconnect
audio.

9. End Meeting option will allow the host to end the meeting, all participants leave the meeting, or
leave the meeting. If the host leaves the meeting, another host will need to be in the meeting
to keep the meeting running.
10. As a host for a Zoom Meeting, I did not have access to the following icons

Manage Participants
Polls
Breakout Rooms
