VACATION WEEK Wed., June 29, 2011 Page 3
Eagle River GolfCourse is famous for itscourse conditions, chal-lenging layout and NorthWoods beauty. It is opento the public for everyoneto play.
When golfers play atEagle River Golf Course, they often are playing onthe best course condi-tions available in theNorth Woods.
Many of our cus-tomers rave every yearabout the overall playingconditions they experi-ence at our facility. Wetake pride in giving thegolfers a playing surfacethat is consistent withour four-star rating wereceive every year fromGolf Digests Best Placesto Play, said Brad
Missling, the clubs PGAgolf pro.
Golf Digest has givenEagle River Golf Coursea four-star rating 10years in a row. The cus-tomers playing thecourse are the people re-sponsible for the ratingthe course receives.
This rating reflectsthe value and awesome
experience of playing atthe Eagle River GolfCourse, said Missling.
Eagle River GolfCourse offers the most af-fordable rates of any four-star rated golf course inthe North Woods. People
can be assured they aregetting a great valuewhen they choose to playgolf at Eagle River GolfCourse.
The practice area alsorepresents what cus-tomers should expectfrom a course with a four-star rating. A newputting and chippinggreen was built a coupleof years ago. This was ahuge improvement forpeople to practice allparts of their short game.
A practice greensidebunker was put in so thatpeople can practice theirgreenside sand game aswell. The driving rangehas three levels of teeingsurface with targetgreens and yardagesigns.
Last year, a gold set oftees was added to the golfcourse. The course nowoffers four sets of tees tomake the course enjoy-able for all skill levels. The new gold tees havebecome very popularwith senior golfers.
The undulating greensand narrow fairwayskeep the course challeng-
ing.The course has many
of its holes carved out ofthe mature trees whichremind golfers why theylove to come and golf inthe North Woods area.
The abundance of
wildlife is another uniquecharacteristic the coursehas that golfers enjoy. Many white-tailed deermake the course theirhome, red fox have beenseen and every spring themallards enjoy the wateron the course.
Trees, water hazardsand rolling hills havemade the course into oneof the most popularcourses in northern Wis-consin, Missling said.
The amenities do notstop with the course. Theclubhouse offers a friend-ly atmosphere to enjoy adrink, food or snack aftera round of golf. Golf out-ings are welcome. Therestaurant can seat morethan 100 people, plus theoutdoor patio is a very
popular spot to relaxafter golf. The restaurantoverlooks the sceniccourse.
The pro shop offers toppro-line equipment fromthe best vendors in theequipment industry.Mens club lines for saleare from Callaway, Ti-tleist, Cobra, Ping, TaylorMade, Adams and Cleve-
land. Club fitting is avail-able to ensure the equip-ment purchased fits thegolfers swing.
The pro shop offersmens clothing lines fromCutter & Buck, Adidas,Sun Mountain, Under
Armour, Gear and Nike.Ladies lines carried inthe pro shop include An-tigua, Adidas, Annika,Nike, Sun Mountain,Gear and Cutter & Buck.
We carry a wider se-lection of ladies clothesthan any other course inthe area. If we dont havean item you want, inmost cases, we can spe-cial order it for you andhave it shipped to yourfront door, said Missling.
Mens and ladies golfshoe lines are from Adi-das and Foot Joy. Thecourse usually orders
around 100 pairs of shoesto start the year, so thecourse offers a good sizeselection at a wide pricerange, which makes theirshoe selection the best inthe North Woods.
The bottom line whenit comes to equipmentand apparel, is that ifcustomers are looking forthat new driver for more
distance, a new putterthat is well balanced, new irons for maximumforgiveness or the newestwedges with zip groovetechnology, the pro shopstaff at Eagle River GolfCourse can help find theexact clubs a golfer islooking for.
Eagle River GolfCourse has two certifiedprofessionals on staff,PGA professional BradMissling and LPGA pro-fessional Margo Rogers
Anderson. Both aretrained, qualified instruc-tors to help golfers im-prove all parts of theirgame. Individual lessonsare offered and made byappointment; group clin-ics and golf schools alsoare offered. Pricing infor-mation for lessons andgolf schools can be

More than 38 yearsago, two brothers cameto the North Woods forsummer jobs. They camefrom a strong Italiancommunity in Chicagowhere pizza was the sta-ple at home and at col-lege.
Since there were nopizzerias in the area, thebrothers realized a great
opportunity existed, andopened their own pizze-ria in Eagle River.
Sources say the localsat the time looked downat them jaundice-eyedand called them brashboys from Chitown. But now the pizzeria hasbecome a landmark.
Today, customerscome from all over thecountry to try the bestpizza in the area.
Even celebrities have visited Alexanders onoccasion, including pro-fessional football play-ers; head coaches fromthe NFL, NBA andNCAA; hockey players;movie stars; movie crit-ics; national sports com-mentators; leaders ofU.S. industries; news-casters; and authors. A
visiting film critic evengave Alexanders athumbs up.
Even though the busi-ness opened many yearsago, one thing remainsthe same the tradi-tional method of makingpizza at Alexanders.
The pizza is made theway Grandma DelCristo said use thebest to make the best.
The ingredients used
are only the best, whichis stressed by the own-ers. The cheese used is100% full-cream moz-zarella, which is straightfrom the most award-winning dairy in Wis-consin, along with 9-month-aged Romano.
The soul of a pizza isthe crust, which is madewith high-gluten flour.
Adding flavor to thepizza is the thick, richsauce that is made fromtomato puree from peartomatoes the meati-est of tomatoes.
The meat also is verylean, at 90% lean meat, with no soy fillers.
For the more adven-turous pizza connois-seurs, Alexanders offers
broccoli, shrimp, alba-core and pineapple tocreate original gourmetpizzas.
Diners also can try adelicious oven-roastedcheese bread appetizer one-half loaf of fresh-ly baked French bread, basted with butter, sea-soned with garlic andaged Romano, covered
with mozzarella, roastedto a honey-golden brownand, finally, lightlysprinkled with oregano.
As one would say inItalian, Si mangia sem-pre bene! (one alwayseats well!).
Employees at Alexan-ders Pizza have comefrom various cities andcountries around the
globe.Exchange-studentemployees from Hun-gary, England, Spain,Scotland, Lithuania, Ja-
maica, Poland, Belarusand the Czech Republichave made the tripacross the Atlantic towork at AlexandersPizza.
Alexanders success isdue to the quality putinto each pizza. Thedough is homemade andtriple raised and thecrusts are rolled with
care. The delicious tasteof fresh butter is inevery bite of crust aswell.
Although the broth-ers have experimentedwith high-tech, cost- andlabor-saving methods, the pizza-makingmethod at Alexandersremains traditional. At
Alexanders, the pizza is
cooked on a 150-poundstone deck.
Pizza is not the onlyitem on the menu madewith care and dedica-tion. Savory sandwichesare made to order withtoasted French bread, creamy mozzarella, Cali-fornia tomato sauce anda choice of ham, Italiansausage or meatballs,
and any of your favoritepizza toppings. To entertain diners of
all ages, Alexanders hasa full assortment of ar-cade games, such as pin-ball machines, videogames and several pooland foosball tables. Its agreat place to host birth-day parties for all ages.
Alexanders Pizza, housed in a turn-of-the-century remodeledbuilding, is located indowntown Eagle Riveron Railroad Street.
Parking is availableacross the street. Cus-
tomers can dine in orcarry out, and can callahead of time to havethe pizza ready whenthey arrive.
Tradition, customerservice and fun can al-
ways be found at Alexanders PizAlexanders does not ac-cept credit or debitcards. To enjoy the bestpizza in the North, call(715) 479-7363

What makes a great-tasting pizza every time? What makes a great
pizza? Tradition. The oldways still work, and allgood cooking starts withthe basics.
Quality food starts withthe ingredients. Only thefinest ingredients shouldbe used, starting from thebottom up, to ensure sat-isfied customers whocome back time after timefor the best pizza around.
The first ingredient forany pizza is dough. Itshould be made with flourthat is high gluten, thehighest quality flour,
Amber Durham wheat the finest of all wheats, cane sugar and only the
best yeast. It must bemade fresh, never frozen. The dough should then bethrice raised, which takes36 hours. This ensures thebest dough possible.
Pear tomato puree isthe main ingredient forthe next layer, the sauce.Pear tomatoes are one ofthe best on the market be-cause they contain themaximum of tomato
solids. The best of domes-tic and imported spiceswould then be blended tocreate a uniquely superbsauce with a savory taste.
In Wisconsin, cheese is avery important ingredientfor pizza. All the cheeseused should be 100% Wis-consin full cream moz-
zarella, without one gramof artificial cheese, for thefullest flavor.
A superb pizza alsocontains the best meat. The sausage should be100% meat, 90% leanwhole hog, blended withthe finest spices for adelectable taste sure toplease even the most dis-criminating of palates.
The pepperoni shouldalso be 100% meat, 90%lean, aged to perfection toenhance the flavor, sureto please all pepperonilovers.
Other toppings avail-able must also be highquality. Only the best
onions should be used, in-cluding Vadalia, WallaWalla, Texas 10/15, andsweet red Bermudaonions. These create amouthwatering additionto any pizza.
Green peppers must bemixed slightly with thesweetest red bell peppersfor an appetizing way toliven up a pizza.
California black olives
also add a savory taste. For a wild appetite,
sweet succulent pineap-ple, crispy vitamin-richbroccoli, tender flaky solidwhite albacore, or lusciousshrimp could be added.
At Alexanders Pizza, these basics have createda tradition of quality food,
which has made therestaurant the most popu-lar pizza stop for residentsand vacationers alike.
In addition, when allthe ingredients are beingartfully combined, nobodywants to think of a dirtykitchen or unsanitaryconditions. But never fear, for Alexanders Pizza hasthe cleanest kitchen youllfind. In fact, it would evenbe clean enough to per-form surgery.
Of course, an aestheti-cally pleasing environ-ment is also needed toenjoy the full pleasure ofeating delicious pizza.
Alexanders Pizza offers a
clean, relaxing environ-ment with friendly serviceand a casual atmosphere.
Games and pool arealso available to entertainthe kids while the food isbeing prepared to order.
