DISCLAIMER: All figures presented in this report reflect the information held on HRP systems at the time of data extraction andare subject to change without notice.

Summary• 141 vehicle/pedestrian/bicycle collisions were reported in January- August 2019,

in Halifax Regional Municipality.• Of these collisions, 41 involved a bicycle/scooter/skateboard.• The remaining 100 incidents were strictly vehicle/pedestrian collisions, with 104

pedestrian victims.

Note: - This report presents strictly vehicle/pedestrian collisions and excludes those incidents involving bicycles. - Scooters/skateboards are recorded under bicycles for purposes of this report.- Several months in 2019 involved incidents with two pedestrian victims.

TrendsVehicle/pedestrian collisions saw a decrease in August 2019 over the previous month. It should be noted, however, that incidents decreased by 6 when compared to August of 2018.

Divisions & DistrictsHRPWhen comparing January- August 2019 to the same time period in 2018, an increase was noted in the number of reported occurrences in West Division while Central and East Divisions reported a decrease.

RCMP Halifax District

The number of incidents in January- August has decreased compared to 2018. In 2018 there were 12 incidents, and so far this year there have been 9 incidents reported.

HRMThere have been 12 less collisions reported in 2019 compared to the same time period in 2018.

Injuries

73 or 71% of the 104 pedestrian victims experienced either no injury or minor injury in January-August of 2019.

There has been 3 pedestrian fatalities thus far in HRM in 2019.

No driver injuries were reported due to collision with pedestrian.

Pedestrian CharacteristicsSo far in 2019, there have been 53 Male, and 51 Female Victims (pedestrians).

Weather & Lighting Conditions64 or 74% of the reported motor vehicle pedestrian collisions in January-August 2019 occurred during clear and/or sunny weather conditions.

There were 17 collisions which took place during overcast or rain and/or foggy conditions.

65 or 75% of the reported collisions took place during daylight.

54 or 62% of the reported collisions took place during daylight with clear and/or sunny weather conditions.
