Visual user guide

This tutorial will teach you about:

◦ The basics of file imports.

◦ Accessing ready made templates for importing into eGrades.

◦ Importing a file into eGrades.

◦ Fixing errors when they happen.

To begin, you need to have a file to import.

There are two places where you can download a pre-formatted file:

You can access the Class Lists at: http://www.ucsd.edu/portal/cgi-bin/blink.pl/4/faculty/student/advanced_class_list.pl

Or though http://blink.ucsd.edu under the instructional tools:

Start by entering the section number here

Next, click this button, to tell the

Class List you want to download a file

Then click here

From this screen, click here to select the eGrades format

Use these buttons to select your

computer type.

Then click here to download the file.

Your browser’s download

dialogue window will open

Click “Save as”

Your browser will open the “Save As”

window

Save the file to your computer as a Microsoft Excel file

for editing

When you open the file, you will get the following pop-up window:

Click “Yes”

Enter your grades in the “Final_Assigned_Egrade”

column

You are now ready to import!

First, make sure your file headings are formatted correctly:

Then go to “File”

And click “Save As”

Click the “Save as type”

And change it to “Text (Tab delimited)”

Then click “Save”

Go to the “Grade Entry” screen in eGrades for the section you

are working on

Click the “Import File” link

The following dialog box will pop up:

Make sure the correct file type is selected

Click “Browse”

Locate the file you wish to import and click “Open”

Click “Submit”

If there are no errors, you will get a message saying your file has been

processed successfully

If there are errors during the import, you will get a dialog box that looks something like this:

Note down the errors and make the appropriate corrections in your

excel file and try the import again or make the corrections directly on

the “Grade Entry” screen

Scroll down and click “Close Dialog”

You should be back on the “Grade Entry” screen with the grades imported into the “Grade” column (this may take a few seconds)

Make sure all of the grades were imported and correct any errors such as

missing grades

Click “Save & Review” to review and then submit

your grades

Once you have reviewed your work and are

satisfied that everything is correct, you will need

to check this box.

Checking this box is the equivalent to your

signature.

By checking the box you are certifying that the work

you have done is in accordance with all

University policy

The final step is to click here to submit the grades

for upload to ISIS.
