VICTORIAN TIMBER WORKERS MEMORIAL OPENING DAY A great day on Saturday thanks to a lot of hard work from all the committee members, the Wellington shire, Tim Rowe, Sally Nowak, Malcolm Hole and the state government. The Heyfield Lions Club for all their support and a great job on the bbq and car parking. The two schools for selling the drinks on such a hot day. We could not have done this memorial without the sponsors big and small they are all important. But most of all for everyone that came to make the day so special for all the families that have lost a loved one.

Heyfield
Happenings
On Saturday 5th of December Peter & Sharon Coleman held a combined birthday party for their two children. Colin turned 18 on
the 1st of December & Brianna turned 21 on the 8th of December. It was held at their Family property at Glenmaggie with 120 of
their Family & Friends. Everyone had a wonderful night dancing & there was also a mechanical bull which kept everyone enter-
tained. Colin got his license on his birthday. Colin is a first year apprentice at Rotafab in Wurruk. He is a Fitter and Turner. Bri-
anna is working at HICO in Maffra.
The Rodaughan family celebrated their Christmas together with a mystery bus trip. After collecting everyone around town the bus headed towards Glenmaggie before making its way back to the Apex park for the first stop. Santa made a guest appearance on the firetruck. Digga (Daniel) Stubbe and his partner Lauren Sadler surprised every-one by also getting out of the firetruck after a 3 day driving trek from Cairns. After morning tea it was back on the bus and lots of guessing on where the next stop would be. The bus arrived at Rawson Stockyard for lunch followed by a stop at Toongabbie for a few funny games as well as a game of cricket. Family and Friends of Digga Stubbe gathered for drinks at Michael and Josie’s home to farewell Digga before he heads to Canada where he plans to live for the next year with his Canadian partner Lauren Sadler. Digga will be liv-ing in Toronto where Lauren works as an accountant and will get to experience his first white Christmas. Digga says his aspirations are to get a job at Walmart!!! A group of local volunteers along with IGA are collecting toys for local children whose parents are experiencing hard-ship at the moment. Ages range from 1 year to teenagers and any donation will be gratefully accepted. Gifts can be left at the IGA Christmas Tree in the front of the store or by contacting Josie Stubbe on 047701440. Josie will also take names of any families who need help this Christmas. All gifts will be distributed on Christmas Eve.

Terrorism, High Alert Causing Me Problems
After hearing the news about possible terrorism attack and a high security
alert I was a little nervous, so when I was at the checkout and ready to pay
for my groceries the cashier said, "Strip down, facing me." Making a mental
note so I could complain to my local MP about this security rubbish, I did just
as she had instructed. After the shrieking and hysterical remarks finally sub-
sided, I found out that she was referring to
how I should position my credit card.
Nonetheless, I've been asked to shop elsewhere in the future.
They need to make their instructions a little clearer for seniors.
I hate this getting older stuff.

What’s on the Menu?
Pork loin with porky scratchings and ci-
der gravy
Ingredients 2.5kg (8 cutlets) pork loin rack, French-trimmed, rind removed and reserved 1 tablespoon sea salt, plus extra 2 large sprigs rosemary, bruised 500ml (2 cups) apple cider 250ml (1 cup) chicken stock 1 tablespoon brown sugar 2 strips orange rind 2 cinnamon sticks, bruised 3 whole star anise, bruised 25g butter, at room temperature 1 tablespoon plain flour
Method Step 1Preheat oven to 220C/200C fan forced. Cut rind into 2cm-thick strips. Sprinkle with salt. Set aside for 20 minutes. Place rind on a rack set over a roasting pan and roast, turning half-way, for 25-30 minutes or until golden. Trans-fer to a bowl. Season with sea salt. Reduce oven to 190°C/170°C fan forced. Step 2Secure rosemary on pork, between bones and flesh, with kitchen string. Season. Heat a frying pan over medium-high heat. Cook pork, fat-side down, for 5 minutes until browned. Transfer pork to a flameproof roasting pan. Roast for 1 hour. Baste with pan juices. Roast for a further 45 minutes or until just cooked through. Transfer to a platter. Cover loosely with foil. Set aside for 30 minutes, to rest. Step 3 Meanwhile, discard all but 2 tbs fat from the pan. Add cider, stock, sugar, rind, cinnamon and star anise. Bring to a simmer over low heat. Simmer for 15 minutes or until reduced by half. Combine butter and flour in a small bowl until a smooth paste forms and whisk in-to gravy until smooth and combined. Cook, stirring, until thickened slightly. Season. Step 4 Slice pork between the ribs and serve with the gravy and scratchings

HEYFIELD MUSEUM This photo of Vasilli's Fish & Chip Shop was posted on the Heyfield & Districts Museum Facebook page by Maree Smith Innes, and caused a great deal of interest. Maree believes it was taken around 1962 and that the young lads were Harry Stone and Billy Pickering. We at the Museum love to get copies of "historical Heyfield" whatever the subject. If you have a pho-to you think may be copied for our archives, please phone Louise on 51482093 or Jane on 51486371. Thank you.
The Staff and volunteers of the
