Creating a VoiceThread: Overview• Create an account: https://voicethread.com

• VoiceThread is FREE-You can purchase additional storage and features.

• Click on “Register” for a new account.

• Once logged in: Click on “Browse” to view public VoiceThreads.

• Click on “Create” and add media to start a VoiceThread:

o Presentations (PowerPoint)o Imageso PDFo Microsoft Word documents

Creating a VoiceThread: Profile• Click on the dropdown beside your email address.

• Select different options:o My Account

-Information, Shopping Cart, Purchases, Exports, and Notifications

o My Identities-Type a different name and/or upload a picture

o Display Preferences-Light or dark display, Language, and Accessibility/Screen Reader

o Groups and Contacts-Upgrade your account to add groups

o Sign Out

Creating a VoiceThread: Uploading/Adding Media

• Click on “Create”, then select “Add Media”: o My Computer

(select image, PDF/MS Word document, PowerPoint presentation)o Media Sources

(select My VoiceThreads, Khan Academy, Flickr, NY Public Library)o WebCam Photo

(Camera and Microphone Access)o WebCam Video

(Camera and Microphone Access)o URL

(Type a website address)o Add a Title, Description, and/or Tago Add additional pages with same steps

Creating a VoiceThread: Commenting While Creating

• Ability to add comments during VoiceThread creation or during viewing

• Click on “Comment” and select commenting type

• Click on the arrow to advance to the next slide, image, or page

• Select commenting type (text, phone, microphone, video-webcam, and/or upload)

Commenting on a VoiceThread: Microphone, Telephone, and/or Keyboard

• Students can comment on presentations/images-Microphone

*Connect microphone (recording will immediately begin/stop recording/save)-Telephone

*Enter phone number (VoiceThread will call your phone/record/hang up phone)-Keyboard

*Speech bubble will appear (click save after typing)

Commenting on a VoiceThread: Audio Files and/or Video and Doodling

• Students can comment on presentations/images-Audio Files

*Recording save on computer (choose the location of the file/file processing)-Video

*Web cam/video camera (countdown to recording/stop recording/save)

• “Doodling” write on an image/presentation if using webcam or microphone

Creating a VoiceThread: Editing a VoiceThread1. Click on the line icon and click on “Edit”2. Click “Edit” (in blue text) again

-Select Title/Description-Playback Option-Cover Art

3. Select or de-select playback options4. Choose the length of time before VoiceThread slide advances5. Click “Save” for changes6. Select individual pages/slides and click on the pen “edit” icon

Viewing a VoiceThread: Zoom/Page Turning• Click on the “+” sign to zoom in or out

• Pages will turn automatically

• You can click on arrows to turn pages manually

• Click on the square icon to view all VoiceThread pages

Viewing a VoiceThread: Comment Listening

• While VoiceThread is playing-comments will be played automatically • If you want to hear a specific comment click on the profile icon• You can skip to the comments you want to hear

Sharing a VoiceThread: Overview1. Click on the VoiceThread, click on the line icon then “Share”.2. Click on VoiceThread options

-Basic (Email the link)-Secure (Upgrade required)-Who has access-Export

Sharing a VoiceThread: Basic1. Link (Copy link-select options allow anyone to view and/or comment)2. Embed (Copy embed code and paste in Blackboard)3. Post

Sharing a VoiceThread: Who Has Access1. Under Publishing Options click on the drop down menu2. Select (anyone can comment, anyone can view, or private)3. Publish on browse page (no capability with free VoiceThread)4. Click on save changes

Sharing a VoiceThread: Export

1. Export VoiceThread to your computer2. Small number of export credits free ($2.99 after free credits)3. View previous exports
