The November Jazz Gumbo, designated the Janet Knowles Memorial Jazz Gumbo, featured Lee Floyd’s New Orleans Jazz Majors, an all-star line-up of top New Orleans musicians. The house was packed and the show was outstanding. The musicians included leader Lee Floyd (banjo), Charlie Fardella (trumpet), Tom Fisher (clarinet/sax), Rick Trolsen (trombone), Matt Perrine (tuba), Richard Scott (piano), and John Etheridge (drums).

Changes Coming to Gumbo Doorprizes, Merchandise Offerings EveryonewhoattendstheJazzGumboreceivesaticketthatgoesintothedoorprizedrawingatthebreakintheshow.TheJSOPmerchandisethatisgivenawayhopefullycreatesinterestinthemerchandisethathastraditionallybeendisplayedatthebackoftheroom.However,we’venotedthatmerchandisesalesatJazzGumboshavebeenslowtonon-existent,andit’shardtojustifyaskingvolunteerstogothroughtheeffortofpick-ingupthetubsofJSOPgoods,displayingthemattheshows,andreturningthemtoourstoreroomwhennosalestakeplace.ThedecisionhasbeenmadetoforegoofferingmerchandiseattheGumboshows.Severalmembershavemadepersonaldonationsofbooks,CDs,etc.thathavebeenwelcomeadditionstotheprizesoffered.IfyouhaveanyitemsthatyouwouldliketobringwithyoutotheJazzGumboanddonatetowardthedoorprizedrawing,we would appreciate it.
