Keys to the Project — Volunteer Focused

Volunteer developed

Reduce administrative tasks for volunteers

Automate processes to improve effectiveness

of volunteers and staff

Provide a home where new ideas can be

evaluated

Create uniform and scalable solutions for

wide usage

DRY, 360° view, data reuse

New methodology – agile, data driven

Keys to the Project — Member

Focused

Generate data to be a data driven

organization

Understand 360 degrees of each member

Need to get ahead of other, non-integrated

products (we don’t own the data)

vTools.Voting

Electronic Election for local units – Marc Apter

– Piloted in 2007 using a vendor – some success,

learned much

– In parallel, started internal development

– Pilot again in 2008 with a vendor

vTools.Voting

Building an internal solution that better meets

volunteer needs and data requirement

– Integrated section/chapter elections

– Local volunteer created/managed

– Send election results to IEEE

UMass developed initial, UAB is taking it further

See video of the pilot tool at the vTools booth

Sign up to participate in the 2008 pilot by

e-maling vtools@ieee.org

vTools.Voting – last year

Achieved our Goals

– increased voter participation by 100% (voter turnout from

2.8% – 20%)

– assisted in managing the election process

– cut costs (paper ballots)

– proofed the vendor system and e-voting process at OU

level

8 OUs, voters from R 1, 4, 6, 8

Received positive feedback from election managers: electronic

voting is useful to hold elections in a professional manner,

timesaving, needs to be available to all OUs.

Based on the survey, most sections from the pilot are willing to pay up to $100 for access to the software

vTools.Voting – this year

Continuing with vendor solution for one more year

Asking to make a minimum contribution based on

OU's size: 0-299 members - $20, 300 – 1,199

members - $50, 1,200 – 15,000 members - $100.

Want to get more OUs from outside of R 1 – 6

Contact us at oumgt-elections@ieee.org or Marc

Apter, m.apter@ieee.org
