WAVES

Longitudinal WavesParticle displacement is parallel to the direction of wave propagation. Sound waves are an example of longitudinal waves.

Transverse WavesParticle displacement is perpendicular to the direction of wave propagation. Waves passing down ropes or slinkies are examples of transverse waves.

Water WavesInvolve a combination of both longitudinal and transverse motions.

Wave Properties

Dual Nature of LightLight can be regarded as either a wave or a single particle called a photon, and sometimes it can be regarded as both at the same time.

Different wavelengths of light carry different amounts of energy.
