HSC Exam Illness/Misadventure

• Call and let the school and the NESA Presiding Officer know.

• Get a Dr certificate or supporting documentation - it will be NESA’s decision based on your evidence.

• Similar process to school based illness/misadventure however NESA make the decisions based on the evidence you supply.

On-going illness/ misadventure in the HSC Year

•ACCESS scheme through UAC.

•Bonus ATAR points.

•Must have external documentation.

ATARAustralian Tertiary Admissions Rank

• The ATAR is a number between 0 and 99.95 with increments of 0.05.

• It provides a measure of your overall academic achievement in the NSW HSC in relation to that of other students, and it helps institutions rank applicants for selection.

• It is calculated on behalf of the universities and released by UAC.

• Your ATAR indicates your position relative to the students who started Year 7 with you.

• The ranked list is calculated by adding ‘scaled’ scores for your two best HSC English units and then your next best eight units.

• An ATAR of 80.00 indicates that you have performed well enough in the HSC to place you in the top 20% of your cohort. You are ranked in the top 20%

• The better you go in each subject the less the UAC scaling will affect your ATAR.

• Every student in this cohort can add 5%, 10% or even 20% to their performance between the Trial HSC and HSC.

Tips for Students• Keep calm and stay focused

• Keep good sleep patterns – exercise – eat healthy

• Set a challenging realistic goal

• Positive peer pressure - support and encourage each other

• Avoid the distractions

• Be cautious not to apply negative peer pressure on others

• Seek help and offer help to others – better understanding is developed by teaching someone else!

Tips for Parents• Keep calm and continue family routines• Encourage without nagging or threatening• Keep positive and look to encourage all efforts• Be careful not to add to anxiety levels• Be there to guide and support• Try to provide a calm environment that minimises

distractions.• Let them know you will love them not matter what their

results end up!
