We will remember them.. ABC KAWAHA POINT ANZAC REMEBRANCE SERVICE

We hold our first remembrance service to show our

respect and aroha for our service men and women of the

past, present and the future. Emo)on filled the air and

away our service began. At our service we had a

welcome, poem, last post, na)onal anthem and haka

before heading inside to have our Anzac cookies which we

had been busy crea)ng all week. We were supported by

Alan a local RSA Member who shared his )me and

knowledge with us as well as a few treasures such as a

poem wri.en by late Private Alexander Merrick of WW1

and from Rotorua called “My Li.le Wet Home in the

Trench”, and also his war)me experiences and the

stories of his medals. Arama and Merenia brought a

special taonga with them a special photo of their great

grandfather Ringori John Hodge (served 28 Maori

Ba.alion WW2) and Great Uncle Reginald John Hodge Jnr

(served 8 years in New Zealand Army). This was such a

special day for us all and we are looking forward to

con)nuing our learning throughout our environment here

at preschool where we are learning keep lifelong skills

such as connec)ng links with out tupuna, empathy and

gra)tude just to name a few. Our Tamariki are keeping the

spirit of ANZAC alive for future genera)ons to come, and

developing a shared understanding of the past for such a

bright future.
