Mrs. Kelley’s Weekly UpdateMay 13, 2011

What We’re LearningLanguage Arts:Reading- Shared Reading-We worked on identifying the themes of books this week. As we finished From the Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil Frankweiler, discussions were held on the author’s message. A chapter book, Dolphin Adventure, a True Story, blended in well with our ocean research. The students are partner reading this book and are responding and thinking in a journal.Writing-We’ve brainstormed topics for our class newspaper article, the final assignment of the year. Be on the lookout for a wonderful edition highlighting our year.Word Study-Sort 24-Adding inflected endings to verbsMath: The whole week’s focus was reviewing all of our fourth nine weeks skills to get ready for the Math Benchmark test. A practice Irespond lesson really helped us as we took the test on Friday.Science: We’ve studied these standards in class and at the Wright Center this week:

the scientific language associated with pollution

the difference between land, air, and water pollution

the effects that humans have on the habitats of plants and animals

ways to protect the environment
