Dear Pittsburgh Milliones Educator:

The Center of Life in Hazelwood, A+ Schools, Communities for Teaching Excellence, Duquesne University and Hazelwood community organizations invite you to join them and parents of your students that live in the Hazelwood community for the first “T.A.P. In Forum,” a community project targeting Teachers and Parents Involved for students to be partners in educational leadership.

All of the organizations above have come together to plan a thoughtful night of discussion, goal setting and community building in the interests of creating better connections between the parents and students in Hazelwood and the schools that serve them. Together, we believe we can help all of our students on the path to college and career readiness.

Your participation will be critical to help parents and community members understand the supports they can provide that will help their students and to have some additional time to be able to get to know a teacher from their daughter or son’s school. This forum will also provide you with an opportunity to learn about the many community assets that exist in Hazelwood that are working to help student success. Ultimately, we hope that we can create a dialogue where the Hazelwood community and its schools can set goals and problem-solve to benefit students.

Come join us for dinner and to get to know the people and places in the Hazelwood community better on the evening of December 7, 2011 from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. Details are provided on the attached flier.

Please RSVP by December 5, 2011 to me at the number or email below.

We know that December can be a busy time for teachers as the semester is winding down. But we hope that you’ll be able to join us for this evening of community building, consciousness raising, goal setting and relationship building in a neighborhood from which many of your students hail.

Sincerely,

James FogartyCommunities for Teaching Excellencejfogarty@4teachingexcellence.org412.697.1298 ext. 100
