English WALT: to use subordinating conjunctions -

when, if, that, because

We always write in sentences when we write. There are different types of sentences, and sometimes we want to add extra detail to our sentences. We can do this using Subordinating conjunctions. Subordinate conjunctions are used to add additional information to a sentence called a subordinate clause. A subordinate clause does not make sense on its own as it is extra information about the main clause. For example: A simple sentence: She had a pink cake. Makes sense on its own. She had a pink cake when it was her birthday. I have added more information using the subordinating conjunction when. The green clause would not make sense on its own without the main clause before it.
