1) THERMAL ENERGY

• Total amount of energy in all of the particles contained in a sample of matter.

2) TEMPERATURE

• Measure of the average kinetic energy of the particles in a sample of matter.

3) HEAT

• The transfer of thermal energy between two objects at different temperatures.

4) CONDUCTION

• The transfer of heat by direct contact of particles.

5) CONVECTION

• The transfer of heat in fluids by the movement of currents that form in the fluids.

6) RADIATION

• The transfer of heat without matter; heat that can travel through empty space.

7) CALORIE

• Metric unit of energy; 1 calorie = 4.2 joules

8) JOULE

• The SI unit of energy; 1 calorie = 4.2 joules
