a seal on the loose.one Friday morning in march 2000, a small grey seal was born on the ice in the seal lake. grey seal bulls tend to be aggressive to-wards newly-born pups, so the Zoo's male seal, atle, was moved to the penguins' empty outdoor pool. he seemed to accept the situation and the staff went home at the end of the day. at half past three on the saturday morning, the operations manager received a call to say there was a seal behind the fire station. somehow, atle had managed to get out of the penguin enclosure and escape from the Zoo via the railway track. a bleary-eyed youth on his way home from the pub came across this very lost, 200-kilo seal and, in total disbelief, he called the emergency services who, understandably, found the story very hard to credit. after several minutes of trying to convince them, helped by atle's grunting and groaning, a police car was sent out to investigate. staff from the Zoo were called and atle was allowed to return to his lake.

It offers a great choice of sights, attractions, exhibitions
and concerts. As well as a tradition of sculpture, the city
has an excellent Art Museum with much to offer, such as
video boxes and galleries.
» Borås is also a textile metropolis, in both its heart and soul.
This is particularly apparent at the Textile History Museum
with its exhibits of the city's textile heritage from the traders
and peddlers of the past to today's cuttingedge technology.

sculpture Biennial until 16 septemBerneW shapes to the city.
Public art is exciting. Especially in Borås, which in recent
years has become known as the City of Sculptures. The
first biennial was inaugurated in 2008 with the famous
statue of Pinocchio by Jim Dine. Since then, more and more
sculptures have come to the city centre and the general
idea is to let them stand out rather than blend in.
» This year's biennial will be centred in and around the
Cultural Arts Centre. Martin Wickström and Ulf Kihlander,
wellknown figures in the world of art, have been put in charge
of organising the biennial and adding an injection of art to the
centre of Borås. For instance, Carl Fredrik Reuterswärd's sculp
ture "Take care of the Earth" stands like an exclamation mark
on P A Hall's terrace. The Art Museum is currently showing an
exhibition of sculptures by Alyson Shotz and the Gustav Adolf
Church houses a number of sculptures by wellknown artists.
