Welcome to iRIS (by iMedRIS)An Online Protocol Submission

Application

Home Page – This is the default view after logging into iRIS.Whenever a question has a red * at the beginning, that indicates the question requires an answer. The will not be allowed to move on until answered.

1. To add a new study, make sure the ‘Study Assistant tab

is selected.

2. Next select ‘Add a new Study’.

Enter the full title to the study.

Within every section, when you are ready to move on, always select ‘Save and Continue to the Next Section’.

Then add the department conducting the study.

Click ‘Add’ to add your

dept. Select your dept from the available

drop-down list.

Click ‘Remove’ to remove the

dept.

Select the dept from the list. Scroll down to find your dept if necessary. Next, click ‘Save Changes’.

Next, select the Key Study Personnel (KSP), Protocol Staff, Study Contact, Responsible Investigators, and Designated Dept Approval.

Always use the ‘BACK” button when you want to go back a page. Do NOT use the browser back button.

Do not use the browsers back button!

To search for a user who will be working on the protocol, enter the users last name in the textbox provided and click ‘Find’.

Once you have located the proper person, click the checkbox next to the name if you are adding a single user, and if you are using multiple users, check the boxes to the left of the name and click ‘Select Users’ in the upper right.

Select ‘Save and Continue to Next Section’.

Choose board. Select ‘Animal Research’.

Training and Qualifications – Here is where you will add the relevant experience as it relates to the protocol in this section.

Click on ‘Add a New Row’ to get a drop-down list of the KSP you selected earlier.

Select the KSP from the drop-down.

Then select the text editor to add the training information on the KSP selected. Click OK.

Next you will add the ‘External Personnel’ (EP). EP are folks that need to be listed on the protocol, but won’t be using the iRIS system.

Select ‘Click here to add External Personnel’.

This is where you will add the External Personnel. Select ‘Add External Personnel to the study’.

Complete the fields on the page and select ‘Save External Personnel Info’.

Then select ‘Return back to the Application’. You also have the ability to Add more EP, or Delete any selection.

Then add the relevant training in the Text Editor, then click OK, then ‘Save and Continue to Next Section’.

Next add the Funding Source(s) from the available drop-down menu. If you need to add multiple Funding Sources, simply ‘Add a new Row’.

Add the Species. Select ‘Click here to add any Animal Species’.

To add a species click on the ‘Add New Species to Study’ button.

Then find the species in the list and select it by clicking the little folder icon on the left.

Then complete the information on the species in the textboxes provided and select ‘Save Species Info’.

Once you have selected the species, from this screen select ‘Return back to the Application’.

Finish answering the last question on the screen and select ‘Save and Continue to Next Section’.

‘Justification’ is fairly straight-forward; All responses in this section are made by accessing the Text Editor and detailing your response. Click ‘Save and Continue to Next Section’.

These little (?) mark ‘balloons’ off to the side indicate some type of help. It could be a link to a document regarding a procedure or a one-sentence help item. Simply hover your mouse over the question mark balloon and click the appropriate response.

In this section there are two dynamic tables where the pain classification and number of animals in one table, and another for Pain Class D and E and a place to document consultation(s) with veternarians.

To begin creating the table for quantities of

animals for each class. Select ‘Add a

New Row’.

Next, if applicable, document

discussions with the vet(s) here.

Include the Strain, then the number of animals in Pain Class C, D, and E, then enter the total. Total number here should reflect the same total number entered previously in the ‘Species’ page.

The 2nd set of arrows indicate

what vet(s) were consulted and a

calendar button to enter the date

consulted.

‘Searches for Alternatives’ contains two dynamic tables which are populated the same way as described in the previous slides.

Continue to fill out each section.

Finally, select ‘Save and Continue to Next Section’ when completed.

Next section is ‘Housing of Animals’. There is a dynamic table that captures the housing information, and of course gives you the ability to add more than one location via the dynamic table.

Complete the rest of the section, and click ‘Save and Continue to Next Section’.

Continuing on to the next section, ‘Animal Identification’. Thy dynamic table in the first question contains a drop-down to select the type of ID needed and the number of animals.

The next question involves ‘Toe Clipping’ and to the right of the question are the familiar ‘Help Tips’ and links to relevant documents to that particular section. When complete select ‘Save and Continue to Next Section’.

‘Environmental Enrichment’ is the next section. Fairly straight-forward. When complete select ‘Save and Continue to Next Section’.

Transportation section is next – When complete select ‘Save and Continue to Next Section’.

One of the last slides in the application is in regards to Euthanasia.

Help tips on IACUC policy for Euthanasia and Template for Carbon Dioxide.

When selecting the type of Euthanasia it is a bit different than the dynamic table functionality. In this case select the green bar to begin the selection process.

Select ‘Add New Euthanasia Method’.

Select the Species dropdown. It will only be populated with the species that was selected previously. Select the Euthanasia method, the Route, Dose and enter any comments in the ‘Monitoring’ section. Select ‘Save Changes’.

Select ‘Return back to the Application’.

The last question contains a drop-down of people you need to identify that will perform the euthanasia.**Remember, all questions with a red * require a response before continuing onto another section.

Other Regulartory Considerations section – Fairly straight-forward. Complete section and ‘Save and Continue….’.

The final section of the application prior to the SubForms is the ‘Controlled Substances’ section. This is a dynamic table that when created a drop-down of the substance is displayed, and textboxes for location.`

Make your proper selection, complete the rest of the section and ‘Save and Continue….’.
