WELCOME TO OUR FIRSTFARM-TO-STABLESUNDAY BRUNCH.
We’re thrilled to have you here. Thanks to all our guests for taking the time to come and brunch among the horses. We can’t think of a better setting to enjoy delectable cuisine and signature cocktails lovingly prepared by Chef Eileen Andrade of FINKA Table & Tap. Her unique menu is made with local organic farm-fresh produce supplied by our very own Alfredo Corrales of Farmer Fred’s Market & Farm combined with the freshest seafood donated by Garcia’s Seafood Grille & Fish Market.
Thanks to all of our in-kind sponsors and a very special thanks to Tracy Gribinic & George Justo of IndieGo Media for creating and organizing this very special event.
And while we dine nestled within the picturesque setting of the rescue ranch, it’s almost possible to forget that every single one of the over 50 animals here was once the victim of cruelty. Every. Single. One. I liken our county to Ground Zero for horse and livestock abuse. South Florida SPCA, now in its 26th year, is the only horse and livestock rescue working with law enforcement in Miami-Dade County. The success of this mission is vital.
And YOU are a vital part of our success. Your support and generosity means this rescue stays open. Young miniature horses like Baby get a chance at life-saving surgery. Pregnant mares taken from horrific conditions give birth to foals in the safety of the ranch and will never know the cruelty their mothers faced. Take a tour. Get to know us while you’re here. Hear their stories. At SFSPCA, we speak for those who can’t.
And because you’re here, so do you.
On behalf of the Board of Directors, staff, volunteers, and all of the animals whoneed you, thank you for being a friend.

South Florida SPCA (SFSPCA) is the last line of defense for abused and abandoned horses in Miami-Dade, Florida. It’s the only thing standing
between them and starvation, death, and even slaughter. The Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries and Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance accredited 501(c)(3) nonprofit works with the county and responds 24/7/365 to local law enforcement to investigate cruelty and abandonment cases, and to seize and care for those victims at its Homestead, Florida facility. Now in its 26th year, SFSPCA is the only organization qualified to rescue, rehabilitate, retrain and rehome horses in Miami-Dade. Since 1992, SFSPCA has pursued its mission to:
RESCUEIn cooperation with local law enforcement, SFSPCA rescues horses from abusive situations, including cases of animal cruelty and abandonment, and provides them with safe shelter, proper nutrition and immediate medical care.
REHABILITATESFSPCA rescues come from the worst conditions imaginable. Life saving measures are the first priority, involving extensive veterinary treatment, a careful refeeding program, and extraordinary efforts by staff and volunteers to restore abused horses’ health and trust.
RETRAINWhen physically and mentally ready, SFSPCA’s horses receive training/retraining by staff and in some cases, outside professionals, to give them the best possible chance at a successful adoption.
REHOMESFSPCA’s goal is to adopt each horse into a forever home where its emotional, social, and medical needs will be met and where it will be happy, safe, and loved for the rest of its life. An Adoption Committee oversees the comprehensive application process, and provides post-adoption support and monitoring.
EDUCATESFSPCA is dedicated to educating the public and promoting the humane treatment of equines through its outreach, member and volunteer programs, as well as through its website and social media channels. Events and community appearances also help raise awareness.
ADVOCATEThe fight for horses doesn’t stop at the rescue ranch. SFSPCA promotes the welfare of equines through local and national advocacy. Its Legal Task Force, comprised of top attorneys, works pro bono assisting the county and state attorneys in the prosecution of civil seizure and criminal cruelty cases.

2018 By-The-NumbersBy September, the number of horses and animals we rescued with our partners
at Miami-Dade County Animal Services and Police had already exceeded all of 2017 (110). We were deluged in July, peaking with a single record-breaking rescue in terms of number (27) and variety of animals for our Homestead location. Fortunately, the number of rescues that we have rehomed so far this year has eclipsed last year’s total of 44, by 91%! Below are our totals as of 11/7/18:
REUNITED!14
12 Horses & Ponies
2 Pigs
In the early years, SFSPCA averaged 15 to 20 horses in its care. Now, 50 or more horses are the norm.
With over 500,000 horses in the state, Florida has the 3rd largest equine population in the country. Texas is #1, California is #2.
