Field Study• Art of Observation

– Immerse yourself in the surrounding textures and tones of life– Qualitative observation skills

• Close your eyes and listen and smell• Look Around you!

• Record basic notes about your surroundings in your field notes– Site location, time of day, temperature, weather conditions, etc.– Note anything unusual

• Record detailed observations– Topography, types and distribution of vegetation, location and types

of water sources, flow rates of water, quality of water, location and types of human influences, locations, types, and interactions of wildlife, evidence of wildlife, etc.

• Identify the full classification of three organisms you record in your lab notebook– Plants, animals, fungi, bacteria, etc…– SKETCH them in your notebook AND
