The product is a synergistic and environmentally sustainable growing technique in which both fish and plants are grown together in the same system without needing to discard water or add chemical fertilizers.

The microorganisms in an aquaponic system turn the fish waste from aquaculture into the nutrients for hydroponics. The hydroponic plants filter the water, which is then returned to the fish. This conserves water and avoids waste management issues and pollution. The beneficial microorganisms also create an environment that hinders the harmful organisms that are a problem in hydroponics and aquaculture.

CLASSROOM SPACE AVAILABLE

The MBTI Aquaponic Greenhouse Program is available September to

June, aligning with the school year. Full day sessions run from 9am to 3:30pm.

A fully developed curriculum, as well as training in aquaponic equipment

management, is available for teachers who are interested in running a

classroom session.

THE FACILITY• Aquaponic equipment to accommodate a class of

up to 20 high school students per 3-hour training session.

• Aquaponics training programs to run up to four3-hour sessions per week per class.

• MBTI will provide personnel to liaise with school instructors assigned to the aquaponics training program.

• Opportunity to include aquaponics trainigng within existing high-school credit programs

Students will be exposed to aquaponics through classroom learning and hands-on experience.

This program will offer students the oportunity to learn food packaging, product marketing, supply chain management and accounting. They will also be accountable for routine maintenance and management of the aquaponic equipment.

Through exposure to zero-waste agriculture, students will learn how to support the local economy and promote healthy living.
