What is CLP Regulation ?

✔ CLP will completely replace the actual Dangerous Substance

Directive until June 2015

✔It is the new European Regulation on Classification,

Labelling and Packaging of chemical substances and

mixtures.

What is changing ?The most important is the change in the labeling symbols :

Instead of the hazard symbols with black printing on orange rectangles, now nine hazard pictogramms are used to provide warnings.

R and S sentences have been replaced by H and P (Hazard and Precautionary)

The previous nomenclature : toxic, irritant, corosive… has been replaced by two “signals words” : Danger or Warning

What is changing ?

With the new regulation there are now classes :

– Five classes for physical dangers– Four classes for health hazards– One classe for environnemental

dangers

Classes can be divided (six divisions for flammable…)

Classes for Physical dangers

Explosive

Flammable

Oxidising

Gases under pressure

Corrosive to metals

Classes for Health hazards

Acute toxicity (categories 1,2 and 3)

Skin corrosion, serious eye damage

Acute toxicity (category 4), irritation

Germ cell mutagenicity, reproductive toxicity,

Respiratory sensitisation

Classe for Environmental hazards

Hazardous to the aquatic environment

Hazards categories

For one hazard classe (acute toxicity, skin corrosion…),

different categories may exist, depending on the danger (Categories 1,2,3 and 4)

StatementsOn the label, there are sentences, = word grouped to express commands
