In 2017 we achieved an excellent set of outcomes that continue to reflect a consistent positive trend over the past 8 years. The results of the 2017 cohort are an indication of their own and their teachers’ effort, strong working relationships and commitment to growth throughout their time at Northcote High School.
It was wonderful to see that the courses our students are pursuing reflect the diversity of individual passions and strengths that they are encouraged to explore at school. The top three fields of study for this cohort are Science, the Arts (& Communications) and Business, but courses range
from Patisserie to Music, Industrial Design to Biomedical Science, Law and International Relations to Agriculture and Marine Biology. Northcote’s vision for learners is to follow the path that will take them in to the world changed and confident. This is certainly true for the class of 2017.

EXPERIENCE AT NORTHCOTE HIGH SCHOOL
Jack was the joint Dux of 2017. His passion for science extended well beyond the school walls, participating in the Chemistry Titration competition, Melbourne Uni Chemistry as an extension subject and the Australian Science Olympiad.
He enjoyed the close community at Northcote High: [by the end of Year 12] “teachers became much more than that: they were sources of support, encouragement and friendship.”
Lucy hopes to enter the realm of diplomacy and politics in the future.
She says: “A highlight of my time at Northcote High has been being able to see my peers achieve their goals and grow into intelligent and mature young people. I believe that Northcote has given us the ability to achieve our full potential.”
Alice’s extensive co-curricular involvement enriched her time at Northcote: she was class captain, peer support leader, netball coach and competitor and completed training in mental health first aid. She won the Young Scholars Award in 2017.
“I have loved all the opportunities which have been made available to me…Anything that I wanted to do, Northcote High worked really hard to make it happen.”
Amy studied English, Chinese, Business Management, Psychology, Biology, Mathematical Methods in Year 12 and achieved her goal of a place in a Law degree.
She says, “I have been taught by amazingly supportive and committed teachers as well as made friends that I will stick with for the rest of my life. Northcote has truly shaped me to become the person that I am today. “
Cal’s hard work in his studies of Chemistry, Biology, Maths Methods, English, Geography, Physical Education (as an advancement subject in Year 11) have prepared him well for pursuing his desired course, Marine Biology.
He comments that “sporting activities were always a highlight, including being part of the 2017 Northcote Football team which won the State Championship.”
Anastasia balanced her studies in Physics and Maths with Literature and a University extension course in Accounting. Her hard work paid off with outstanding results and a number of academic awards.
She was also a keen participant in the music program and particularly enjoyed the laughs and satisfaction that came from forming her own ensemble with a group of friends.
Theo relished the opportunities offered by the Northcote High Music program, playing a prominent role in the school’s jazz ensembles.
From Years 10-12, Theo studied three VCE and VET music subjects, as well as English Language, Further Maths and the challenging Extended Investigation.
